Very fresh, hoppy, but with good balance. 5.4% abv is just right IMO. — 8 years ago

Had to compete with '08 SLV and 2012 Rubicon at the table. Held it's own admirably. Mellow and delicious. — 9 years ago

Meerlust

Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

9.1

Brick red, has those brownish edges. Started off with a ton of chalk, as it warmed up more meat and leather, nice and savory. As it ended there was a little green bell peppers. Very savory palate, similar to dried meat. Notes of coriander, black pepper and dried herbs. Smooth tannins (6/10) with a little bite at the end. Balanced with a moderate body. Dry finish that lingers for quite a bit. Solid acidity in the finish as well. Very well balanced and structured. Delicious Cabernet from South Africa, and as the fact sheet says, this has held up perfectly well. Loving the meat, pepper and spices in these wines. If you haven't tried a wine from Meerlust we highly recommend it, especially the Rubicon! Now till 2018. — 8 years ago

Cuvée Rutherford Red Blend 2008

08' Rubicon is elegance without the punch. Balance & finesse that's near perfection . Black fruits are abundant. The perfect amount of oak. Not the most complexed... yet beautiful (it's an 08) A long lingering finish. Crowd pleasing wine!! — 9 years ago

Cask Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

I had the 2005 in 2015. Rubicon (now Inglenook) prides themselves on this ubiquitous Cabernet. The tannins are soft and light, not what you'd expect from a Cabernet Sauvignon, but you should. The aging process takes the teeth from the lion.
Regardless, this is still a big bold Cab. Heavy berry flavors: black currant and dark cherry dominate. Barrel notes show up as nut(almond & walnut) and tobacco flavors. A fantastic Cab that comes alive when paired with beef.
