Very different experience from typical reds. Dry, light, very clean. Good try for cab lovers. — 5 years ago
The 'Que Bonito Cacareaba’ by Bodega Contador is a stunning effort in this vintage. The wine is a compelling blend of 50% Garnacha Blanca, 35% Malvasía, 15% Viura all sourced from head-trained vines gown in a mix of alluvial and calcareous soil from the districts of San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Briones with Rioja Alta. Showing off a golden hue, this exudes a wide range of aromatics, from unripe nectarine to lychee to tangerine zest. The texture is polished and downright unctuous, yeilding flavors of bright pear, pink grapefruit zest, starfruit and lychee that all beautifully connect. This is bright yet highly rich and satisfying. A sensational effort by Benjamin Romeo. Drink 2019-2035- 94 — 6 years ago
Drinking this Northern Italian wine, family produced at the foot of the Alps for 7-generations one can almost imagine pulling over in your Alfa Romeo to have a light lunch and taste the local wines. Smooth, rich, even elegant this full-bodied red will be the perfect accompaniment. Another under the radar find at Metrovino, Calgary. DOC, 13% alc/vol ~$21.00 CAD Cheers 🍷 — 6 years ago
Continuing to work my way through Beau Vigne’s line-up. To date, I’ve had their Cult, Romeo, and Old Rutherford.
This was poured for us when we visited a year ago, but I have no recollection...thankfully my wife does as she loves Zins. Talk about aromatics! Like a velvet glove punch to the face...wraps you with lavender, blueberries, blackberry pie, milk chocolate. The palate invokes more red fruit but also some bacon fat. The finish ends up being fairly peppercorn/spice driven, which I enjoy with Zins.
Sometimes you just crave bold, unabashed zin and this fits the bill. Haven’t had many Carlisle, Bedrock, Ridge or Turley, but this and Jessup’s zin are delicious. — 7 years ago
Beautiful amber color. Straight out of Jurassic Park.
Candied ginger, citrus, roasted almonds, and mango chutney.
Oh man. This is a flavor bomb. Bursting of apricot and tropicana. Guava. That is the primary note. Feels like I’m eating a Romeo & Juliet at a Cuban hole in the wall in Miami.
That’s all I can taste now. Wonderful, goodbye. — 4 years ago

The 2014 'La Cueva del Contador' is an utterly compelling Rioja. Immediately, you are drawn to the inky color, which is followed by highly perfumed aromatics with amazing range. Nuances of black tea, Asian spices, blackberry cobbler and milk chocolate all marvelously come together in the glass. The palate is seductive and deep, offering a generous, silky mouthfeel, which is layered with lavors of wild blackberry jam, mocha, anise, orange zest and hints of dried sage that thoroughly impress. This is a complete wine made by the talented Benjamin Romeo, which looks to have an exceedingly long life ahead. Drink 2019-2040- 96 — 6 years ago

Love this wine! Value for the money is outstanding. — 6 years ago
Lovely dark fruit notes at the forefront, with well structured but not overly dry tannin. Notes of leather underneath. — 6 years ago
A really fascinating rose blend from Mount Aetna. Has the high acidity and even some minerality that wines on those slopes yield. First thought: like a very light, unsweet version of Cran-grape juice. There’s only a whisper of fruit, maybe some light strawberry, lemon, hibiscus. High acidity and alcohol plus tartness make this a stellar, STELLAR wine. Amazed and can’t wait for more. — 7 years ago

Subtle and pleasant. Not so much true to the Romeo and Juliet name but still a nice bubbly. Dry with a hint of sweetness that isn't overwhelming. — 8 years ago
