First red from Black Ankle. Garnet red with a dark core. Slightly stinky attack on the nose followed by some dark cocoa and nutmeg. Undertones of dark fruits. Moderate tannins (5.5/10) with a medium body. Dark cocoa and cherries on the palate with some good acidity and backbone. Long slightly dry finish. Drink till 2019. Very interesting Label actually says 11/12/13. β 9 years ago

What the hell. Let's keep the cab train rolling! A strong bouquet of cherry and toasty oak. The cherry notes are accompanied by currant, cinnamon and a heavy dose of baking spices, and mushroom. The finish is long with dusty tannins. So many knock Silver Oak because it's big, oaky and relatively straight-forward. There certainly are more complex options out there. But that doesn't mean it's not well done. β 9 years ago
Fruit forward and lovely. Paired with meatloaf and potatoes. Not a typical Syrah. Soft, not spicy. Big but not overpowering. β 10 years ago
Lush! Favorite new friend. Beautiful red fruit meets Russian River brown earth. Sad only had 1 bottle. β 10 years ago

Few friends over last night and what was supposed to a relaxing evening became a drinking free for all and it was a blast but no way posting last night - had this wine previously for 2010 and 11 and first time with 12 - stunning wine and really got things rolling - we killed this bottle like was water after being in the desert for two days - in seconds and @Jody Scharf not a lot of breathing but a lot oh yeahs - a little sweeter than I remember but a great time which leads me to my final seasonal quote from Elf "I like to smile ... smiling is my favorite" and of course this wine is helping so much - PS not smiling as much this morning - belated Merry Christmas to all and to all get some rest β 9 years ago
A transfiguring, shape-shifting demon of flavor and memory. A single sip is like the ending scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey but instead of weird space stuff, it's the rolling hills of Piedmont and 1000s of herbs and fruits morphing into one another. #magic @Raymond Domenico β 10 years ago
If you're looking for a cheap but fruity wine, this is a pretty choice. There's still a light alcohol taste to it but overall it taste like juice. β 10 years ago
