I was so excited to open this 2006 Leoville Barton. The color was ruby red and dark crimson. Almost black. It opened very hot with just a short decant. The nose showed amazing cherry, raspberry, cocoa and coffee notes. On the palate the tannins are very evident. There are obvious dark berries and even some earthy vegetables and tobacco. Over the course of 2hrs it really came into its own and showed its meddle. This is a great wine and, in my opinion, a great value. While a bit young, this wine a still great now and will be amazing in 10 yrs. — 10 years ago
First wine opened for our homemade grilled pizza night. Great bottle to start with. Opened and let sit for about 2 hours-wanted to come across a little hot with the alcohol being so high but turned out to be perfect. Definitely a bottle to share! Black jam fruits on the nose-smoke, spice and a hint of herbs on the finish. Fun bottle! — 10 years ago
2011- gift from a friend. Excellent structure, tannins are very mellow but alcohol is still very hot. Fruit forward, possibly oxidized fruit (port-like fruit). — 11 years ago
Intense plum, well balanced, sweet with nice acidity and some pepper and hot stones at the end. Tannins there but long and smooth finish. Great now and probably a good 5 year window in front of it. — 12 years ago
The most generously fruity of Ridge Zins. Black berry and stewed fruit in the front, young and opulent at first compared to their other wines. More resolved and firm in the back with a near perfect juxtaposition of acidity and tannin. White pepper in the finish. A bit hot and jumpy at this time. Great potential but needs some softening time still. — 8 years ago
The best, pound for pound, in the Turley stable. Vibrant but balanced, just hot enough to be Zinfandel. And it opens beautifully and quickly. More please — 9 years ago
I am so biased.. for me this is the ideal wine... just hits all the notes on my taste buds.. fruity, acidic, light with a great breadth finish.. if I could choose a wine that I can drink for the rest of my life that would be it .. it is elegant, refined but still humble and fun.. goes with almost anything and or can simply quench your thirst in a hot day — 10 years ago
Newly-arrived 2014 vintage, and it is very good. Balsamic, sage, underripe black cherries, and herbs. Well-crafted, the balance, texture, alcohol, and tannin all mesh perfectly. Great with marinated chicken and pork skewers, including some with lots of hot chilli flakes. — 10 years ago
So good , perfumery nose, dried fruit smooth tannins surprisingly fresh from such a hot vintage — 10 years ago
Very dry and lots of lemon and grapefruit. Good and refreshing on a hot day. — 11 years ago
We'll done for the style: big, bold, deep. Varietal, dark, touch of lavender, coffee candy. A little hot on the finish. — 11 years ago
Very bold, strong, long finish, good. NOT as good after opened for awhile — 12 years ago
Really enjoyed this bottle and it showed its versatility with various soups/sauces at our favorite hot pot BYOB place in Hawaii. Lamb, beef, sesame sauce, miso sauce, spicy soups. It works with everything. #wheninamerica #drinknapa — 8 years ago
Fruit is impeccable, but wish it to be a little less hot. — 9 years ago
Super hot and really tannic. Cherry fruit. Great alone. Excited to see what the future holds for this one — 9 years ago
If there were ever an archetypical Syrah, Jamet's Cote-Rotie would be a strong candidate. To me this is a pure expression of a classic Northern Rhone Syrah. It is not a single site, but a blend of terroirs, encompassing over 20 sites mostly from hard rock schist bedrock with little to no topsoil. There is NO Viognier in this wine like one might expect from most Cote-Rotie that might have 1-5% co-fermented.
Importantly, there is also a lot less of the oak character that can dominate and overwhelm many Northern Rhone wines. The oak maturation, while not short at 22 months, only uses 15% new oak with no trace of it on the palate as it is perfectly integrated. Grape bunches are whole cluster fermented and macerated for up to 3 weeks.
The 2007 we have here was drinking superbly for a young wine, showing lively and racy layers of peppercorn spice, roast beef, and warm blackberry and currant fruit from the hot 2007 vintage. While from a warm vintage, not a hair is out of place. Density and purity exude from the nose and hint at what a brilliant future this wine has. Perfect acidity and fleshy ripe tannin provide the backbone structure for father time to peel back the layers of this beauty. I will be chceking back in 5 years at the earliest. — 9 years ago
Oh my heavens. I could wax poetic about Vietti all day. Violets and crushed purple roses jump out of the glass, followed by tart bramble fruits, high acid, and gripping tannins. Nebbiolos smell like the Deep South in summer: wisteria and hot asphalt. — 11 years ago
2011: all varieties. Meaty, lavender, garden herbs, smoky, but still very vibrant red fruit. Lovely vibrancy of red fruit and all Mouvedre and Grenache aromatics. Sweet fruit, juicy acidity, hot indian spice and liquorice. Plum, cherry, spiced. Quite ready now. — 11 years ago
Nose: raspberry, currant, vanilla bean, cedar, wet clay
Palate: raspberry, fig, sweet black tea, cherry. Explosive attack, a little hot and sugary. Let it breathe. — 11 years ago

Smells of Thai basil,
Continues into the wine, with eucalyptus, squid ink, intensely deep, rich and as usual very well made.
This wine strikes a great balance in the holy trinity of fruit - acid - oak.
This wine is hot, yet does not show it off at all.
Loong finish, dark unsweetened fruits.

Been drinking this wine since 2005, first release. Still a quality wine for a quality price. — 8 years ago
