Tonight's selection with Prime Rib a 2000 Mag of Rudd Estate Proprtry. Red. Initial impression Bordeaux with black red fruit with Tobacco & a hint of first floor / earthiness. On the palate you black fruit, cassis dark chocolate, cedar, earth, with a touch of vanilla, the finish lingers giving you a macerated plum, earth, red fruit with hints of cedar & mocha. Beautiful wine, one of my favorite Syrah from California. It starts off with aromas of milk chocolate and blueberries and opens up in to more dark fruit, leather and light smokiness. On the palette dark fruit - blueberries and blackberries, notes of vanilla with balanced tannins. I need more of this! — 8 years ago

The wine of the night! Head to head with five other high end 2005 Cabernet Sauvignons! Absolutely beautiful expression of CS. Went with everything we ate and was the clear winner in a blind tasting with Chateau Montelena, Robert Mondavi Oakville (finished second), Regusci Angelo's Vineyard, Beringer Private Reserve, and Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste. Not too often that a group can taste this many wines blind and choose a clear winner! Way to go David Ramey, again!! — 8 years ago

Amazingly underrated wine. Standout in a tasting of several 2005 Cabernets. Best value wine one can purchase! Stood up to wines that were 2-3 times the cost! Delicious but came in second to Ramey Jericho Canyon. — 8 years ago

From the young vines of Kent Ritchie's eponymous vineyard. The Ritchie Vineyard produces some of California's best chardonnay, from the likes of Aubert, Ramey, Bevan, and Paul Hobbs. This needed 45 minutes to really get going, but once it did it was stunning. Lemon custard, white peach, and wet stone, with some secondary orange marmalade. The oak is present, but well concealed. I'm not sure if there is a better cab. Ramey is close but more expensive. The nose is ripe red fruit leather and tobacco. The flavor is balanced and smooth. With a clean finish. A perfect pairing with a steak dinner or blue cheese and antipasta — 11 years ago
