Started as a strawberry icing on yellow cake which is odd for extra brut, but this 2005 has some age on it. It turns to soft strawberry compost, pineapple pulp and shortbread cookie, becomes bright marigolds and honeysuckle pollen ,then suddenly croissant becomes primary, forgetting its sweet infancy like a whiff from a patisserie. The palate is calcareous, navel orange-lemon splash, tart, dried lime, and crystalline ginger. Excellent. Drank the 1985 in 2021 for my 36th birthday. The color was still good, the nose was wonderful, the legs were as slow as molasses. Great wood notes. When we opened it, we did break the cork. The cork was longer than usual and longer than our screw. It was salvaged with a chopstick and there was only one speck of cork found in the wine. Incredibly low sediment for the age — maybe a shot glass of sediment was left in the bottle when we tipped it. — 3 years ago

We are at Machiavel, just next door to Clover Grill in Paris. Rocche dei Manzoni is a great Barolo producer. This is their basic Barolo, and we love it. Good length, polished tannins and freshly cut flowers with lots of red and dark fruits. Excellent now and can age well for a few years as well. Good stuff ! — 5 years ago

Nose is dense soft cherry. Some library book. A light perfume. Cherry flower. Captivating.
Palate is perfect cherry fruit. Just a kiss of cherry liquor. Stunning. Internal aromatics are cherry cherry flower spice
Elite finish. That spice liquor cherry liquor dense lingering thing. Wow.

Great well aged langhe nebbiolo. Certainly quite secondary at this point. Lots of bricking in the glass. Mushrooms and decaying leaves in a good way. Smooth, mouth filling, and good acid. — 7 years ago

Nice barbaresco with a good bit of bottle age, but I fear we opened it too early and therefore it was not showing its best. Even with a 4 hour decant the nose was quite closed. Still would certainly have identified nebbiolo blind - the color, the nose, and the palate are quite traditional. Great acid holding things together at the end, and a long finish with quite integrated tannins. Nice but below expectations. Our only bottle - suggest holding a couple more years. — 3 years ago
