Great Pinot, slightly warm and skewed to Cabernet on after taste. Rich bouquet, great with steak — 6 years ago

Benje Tenerife Tinto 2016

Like a natural gamay, without the floral tones. Lively, vibrant, with lots of acidity (thx to volcanic ash). Tannins come on strong at first, but the dryness is swiftly wiped out by a splashy, salty waterfall. Savory and funky, and perfect with lighter fare (veggies, poultry). — 6 years ago

In a very savory place. Green pepper, black pepper, ash and stones. Not a whole lot of fruit at the moment except maybe a touch of underripe raspberry. — 8 years ago

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia

Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia Bolgheri Rosso Merlot Blend 2010

Was gifted this by a guest earlier and what a gift! Muscular nose, with leather and tobacco and dried herbs. Leathery on the palate, with some tart plums plums and ash on the long, long finish. I find a lot of Italian wines to be very acidic but this is super well balanced. The finish lasts for a good long time. Worth it. — 9 years ago

Zena Crown Vineyard Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2014

Medium-full bodied Pinot. Had it with a garlic-crusted roasted pork shoulder & held up quite nicely - even with all the garlic. Loads of dark cherries, spices, & bacon on the palate. Good tannins. Would like to try it in about 5 years to see how it's doing. — 7 years ago

Vive Chinon! Chinon Rive Gauche Cabernet Franc 2014

Ash, pepper, blackberries and raspberries. Medium-light body and good lift. Simple but focused, pure and super pleasing. If there was just a bit more mid palate depth this would be a stunner. As it is, and at $16, it's a tremendous value and beautiful Chinon. — 8 years ago

Aged for 10 months on oak, 29% new, deep Ruby with aromas of sweet berry fruit and toasty oak notes. On the palate strawberry and cherry flavors with smoky oak notes adding in tea, spice and cacao notes. Fine soft tannins, lingering ending with a big mineral spice finish. Nice! — 6 years ago

Family Reserve Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Much more accessible and fruity than the '14 hunnicutt 935. The hunnicutt will improve over time but this is drinking well right now (but still will benefit with a few years) . the bone ash is more of your opulent cab compared to this. 96-97. — 6 years ago

Why is the Venge Sangiovese almost half the price of B Cellars Sangiovese? Just received email from the B, $65.00 or $48.00 for club

Oops,
I was comparing my auction price buys, their about the same price from wineries, $45.00 from Venge

@Paul Treadway Huntington Beacher venge's prices are always a little lower than the wineries he consults for. The b cellars sangio is more prototypical sangio whereas the venge is a bigger denser wine.

Clos Rougeard

Le Bourg Saumur-Champigny Cabernet Franc 2010

2010 vintage. At Pearl & Ash on the Lower East Side (amazing wine list) with Kish. Deep ruby hue. Blackberry, leather, earth and savoury spice. Lots of white pepper and pencil shavings. Youthful. On the palate, great piercing acidity, medium plus concentration, medium alcohol, medium plus crunchy tannins. Long savoury finish. Really shouldn't have opened as this is still a baby. Clearly big and bold. Don't open until 2025+. Will drink forever: 2040+. — 8 years ago

Cornas Syrah 2002

A phenomenal intensity even after 14 years. The structure may not be what it was in youth, but this evolves in the glass even still. Char, smoke, dark berries, ash, and a medley of attractive brett qualities. Wonderful length. — 8 years ago
