Wow. Lately I’ve found Merry Edwards isn’t ready to drink upon release and needs some time to age. I’ve intentionally held this and so glad I did. The color is showing some age, but you wouldn’t know it by the taste. It’s just hitting its stride. Thick, juicy cherry fruit, followed by cola and spice. Luscious. Thought this was a good way to follow up SNM while cooking dinner, sitting on my duff, and watching West Wing. — 8 years ago

Like a sea salt butterscotch caramel. Superb with a skate wing. — 9 years ago
This is one of the most gossamer red wines I have ever had. The physical material is so delicate it feels almost fragile, like a butterfly's wing. The color is a pale brick and the fruit autumnal and completely beyond the primary. For a time it has me wondering whether this is just a little too "natural" (read: sans SO2) to keep a grip on its material. But even as it conveys that sense of physical fragility and seems like it could start to crack up, it never does. To the contrary, it seems to compose itself more and more the longer it's open. The scents segue from an early whiff of chemical funk to more appealing earthy funk to stuff that's more dominantly fruity, though not sweet primary fruit - still in that autumnal family, mulled apples, etc. And the physical body remains so lightweight it's a wonder it's even there. — 10 years ago
2013 FDR3. Red-hued dark brunette body with bib bubbles, big textured, loose and frothy. Just dud spots left and moth wing scatter of pressed flower residual. Awesome sour cherry, baked persimmon, aged balsamic over steamed carrot, peppercorn, and toasty oak scents disperse, while chutney and pickled apricot take the spotlight, locked in a dark embrace. This may be the perfect sour. Smooth from oak, but sweet with vanillin and cola-malt, and sharpness from grapefruit, sour apricot, sweet potato sugar baked black. Blackened cinnamon-soaked apples, dried, brined bing cherry flavors, grilled lime, with autumnal spice and landscape sensibilities flowing smoothly in between. Astounding. — 6 years ago

Chinese Dinner at Wing Lei with a very American wine! — 9 years ago
Meaty, leathern, thick skinned dark fruit, and guinea fowl packed with the rosemary, sage and cystes that pulses through the garrigue of Châteauneuf du Pape terroir. Extraordinary to think this is CDP proper -comprised of each and every permitted variety. Extraordinary and beckoning for game off the wing or hoof. — 10 years ago

V11. Delicious. Soft cedar and smoke nose. Rich, juicy, blackberry fruit. Earthy black pepper finish. Nicely balanced. Great bbq or wing wine. — 7 years ago
It’s a delight. On the brighter side of ruby, the nose brings a new expression of fleshy cherry as it breathes, and the palate opens in a graceful - yet unmistakable- setting that reveals its home in Nuits St. Georges. The irony of it all is that the vineyard itself bears the name of “infertile land”.
Sampling from this incredible 1’er Cru, there seems to be absolutely ZERO indication of such ‘infertility’. Point. Wing made as concisely as possible: THIS is some fertile juice. — 8 years ago
Easy afternoon winter wine. Love the hints of dark chocolate! — 9 years ago
This wine is stupid good. Nice and crisp with great acidity and some green fruit. Perfection with mussels and skate wing. A must have — 9 years ago
Deep brooding spicy autumnal party delight. Was not expecting this. Bat wing cellared cumin infused rubber asparagus fire. That's the whole enchilada. With a smidge of dark cocoa/maple infusion. If you want real deal Holyfield - take a breath...then buy this wine. — 10 years ago
Pairs nice with dark chocolate and pub style BBQ wing popcorn — 10 years ago
