Cherry, raspberry, dried herb (sage maybe). Definitely an outlier of the turley profile as it is more restrained, elegant, acidic. not as lush or layered as other turleys (4hrs in the fruit is softening up). The bright acidic fruit shows up front but the herbs/earth show up somewhere in the mid palate and dominate the finish. Still well made, and I have no doubt this would be appreciated by those wanting a more elegant style of zin. — 6 years ago
Another Pinot that I like. — 6 years ago
This was a fun outlier on the night from @Carl Fischer and although I think it’s 100% Shiraz it plays like a petite Syrah/Zin blend. As purple as wine gets. Ripe plum and full grainy mouthfeel. — 7 years ago
A total outlier among the whites and a special treat from @Shawn R it is not in everybody's wheelhouse and certainly not a casual poolside sipper. This is a studying wine. Open the book. Get out your hi-lighter. You will be tested on this later. Immediate petrol on the nose that gives way to marzipan, parker house roll and honeyed butter. There is a yeasty quality that predominates on the mid palate and is likely representative of its late stage development. This is on its denouement so drink now but stop to enjoy the unique ride. This is the woman with the little scar on her cheek that you can't get out of your head. You didn't appreciate her when you had your chance but now you remember her far more than the obvious hot ones with less substance and now you want another chance to show her you're not as superficial as she thinks. — 8 years ago
Yep. 3rd bottle proves the 1st was the outlier. Rich and tannic and a whole lot of life left. 1 bottle left. — 9 years ago
Love the acid and style of this wine. Didn't quite stand up against the richer wines in this flight, but again it's is own animal. Lots of carbonic character. Day two it lost that primary effervescence and showed much more weight on the palate. Definitely the outlier in the group. Would like to see this with at least 5 years of age. — 9 years ago
2001: Not the expected Valmur richness from the start. Surprisingly tart, like biting into a granny smith apple. Lively, yet puzzling with each sip. Where was the lemon lime zip, giving way to a lemon custard vanilla tart? Not this bottle. Continued to develop slowly, yet the edge never fully mellowed. An outlier, that I now want to try again. — 9 years ago
An initial California 2012 look - no rhyme/reason...a little Cab, Prop. Red, Pinot and possibly an outlier or two. The rest are tagged the same. This one ranked #2. — 10 years ago
Beautiful outlier tonight. — 11 years ago
Fun Italian outlier for our SB lunch from @Eric LaMasters noticeable depth and concentration. It unfurled slowly but I’d say it was right there with the Pape Clement and Silex for most unique wine of the day. — 6 years ago
My surprise of the day. I didn’t expect there to be much here as I know these don’t have a great track record for aging, but this was an outlier. Blood orange, rhubarb and herbal black cherry aromatics. Sporting nice acidity with cherry cordial and sandalwood. Drink up. — 6 years ago
I guess I've taken a particular liking to it. An outlier but I think it's pretty good — 9 years ago
On the nose, white pepper hits first. Then candied fruits and smoke unfurl.
On the palette, the tannins are a touch green, which is what I would expect from a Rhone of this age. The mouthfeel is plush and complemented with linze torte and barrel toast. Acidity is perfect. The components need to come together. This should hit 93 pts 3 years from now. Judging by the scores, mine is an outlier, which I attribute to my idiosyncratic taste.
A wonderful gift from my good friend @Martin G Rivard. Thank you so much. — 9 years ago
Wow, incredibly youthful with acids and focus. A brilliant outlier in a Corton tasting. — 10 years ago

Had a California classic with a traditional Rhône Valley end-of-harvest lunch! It was an obvious New World outlier...not bad company for the fromage. — 11 years ago
Would get again — 6 years ago
Can’t go wrong with the always unique outlier Cayuse in the mix. Raconteur @Shay A brought this and the expected fox fur and raw hot dog bouquet hits you immediately upon initial swirl. Blood and iron everywhere. Like a civil war battlefield. Always fun. — 6 years ago
Popped and poured. This was opened on a night where there was stiff competition from the Old World (Ferrando Carema and Cascina Roccalini Barbaresco). While it was an obvious outlier, it held its own just fine. Abundant Zinfandel fruit in a slightly more restrained style with enough nuance to keep someone interested in a night of wines that dominated in the nuance and structure department. All that being said, it sure was a nice wine to end on. The 2012's are drinking well at this point but I still think these will be better with a couple more years in the cellar. — 7 years ago
The Brett threw me. This was an outlier when pitted against rambunctious Cali Cabs. Very traditional, and perhaps the best foil to the rack of lamb. Thanks @Vickie Beuerle ! — 8 years ago
Much rounder and softer than expected. Less intense than most Aussie Riesling. Great producer and delicious wine but a bit of an outlier #pewseyvale — 9 years ago
The thing about Raveneau is at once it is both quintessential Chablis and an outlier, so consistently full, long, deep and full of dimension yet not shrill or overblown. It's in its own class. The sheer magnificence of this mature Blanchots, the aromatics, the intensity, the texture, the length is all quite perfectly aligned with the wonderful service and cuisine at Little Bird. Oily citrus, cereal dust, saline, ginger, lemongrass creme, subtle spice, this is what gratitude tastes like. Thank goodness for chicken fried trout and Raveneau. — 9 years ago

Cool little aged outlier from @Mike R bringing the smooth lines and blackberry cedar. Comes off as more Tempranillo than Sangio. — 6 years ago
