Mills vineyard in the Mt. Harlan AVA in San Benito County. Transparent ruby turning orange at the rim. Unmistakeably Pinot Noir in the nose (the French would say "ça pinote") with morello cherries and a subtle earthy spiciness that I associate with a very good Nuits-Saint-Georges. Gains complexity in the glass, very nice smell. Medium-bodied, very balanced with fruit, spices, and present, but well-tamed tannin, fine acidity, perfectly integrated oak and a long spicy finish. Great value too. Josh Jensen never lets you down!

Dismissed by many as too jammy or too ripe, I’ve always thought this is the fun bottling. This ‘21 is no exception. Beneath the slightly over extracted ripe dark fruits lies quite complex aromas and flavors of figs, sweet spices, dark chocolate, smoke meat, and hint of balsamic. Rich palate but not overbearing. In a good vintage like ‘21, this can benefit for 5-8 years of bottle age.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two days. Best on Day 2. The 2013 “Au Paradis” pours a deep ruby with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears and some signs of light sediment. On the nose, developing the wine is developing with notes of brambles, plums, tobacco, some leather and woody notes, vanilla and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and the texture is pretty plush. To my palate, pretty much a fastball right down the middle of the plate and not quite as intriguing as the “Les Pavots” from the same vintage. Drink now with some patience and through 2038. — 10 months ago

1hr+ decant and could have used more. Dark red color. Interesting nose with metallic, medicinal tones that tingled my nose. Wine has massive strawberry and cassis; and is sweeter than I was expecting. Very concentrated. The tannins reduce with ample air and the spicy aspects dissipate with time as well making it more approachable. Medium finish. — 4 years ago
