Concannon Vineyard

Mother Vine Livermore Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Grapes from the Concannon clones 7 and 8 are included in this "Mother Vine" Cab which give it aromas of black cherry and blueberry. It has blackberry, black current and plum flavors with a smooth finish. Anything from the Mother Vine at Concannon is good vino. — 10 years ago

Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Steak night at home with Marcia. Bought from a source. Love email lists. Delightful. Cork had been breached but wine was perfect. 25 years old. Real treat. Have one more. I buy these because my mother had three 1982 on Thanksgiving Day when child bride and I were very very young. This one reminded us of those days!! — 10 years ago

Bodega Catena Zapata

Catena Alta Historic Rows Malbec 2011

Andrew Lampasone
9.3

Nicola catena is the Robert Mondavi of Mendoza they advanced in 15 years what it took the rest of the world 200 years to get to this level. They take from the five family vineyards for this wine. The historic rows are now put on the label. This is the best vineyards and they look for the best location in those vineyards Angelica named after his mother and this is the mother clone material. All the wineries built in Spanish or Italian architecture. Dark berry fruit blackberry and blueberry fruit with notes of licorice spice dark tobacco spice. Another vineyard has a dessert effect because of its low altitude this site gives it structure. Adrianna vineyards is one of the highest and this is the most important violet flowers and freshness and acidity — 11 years ago

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1966

Purchased at auction from K&L. Single owner kept it in very fine fettle. Fill level high for a '66 and minimal sediment in the bottle. Tawny caramel color with golden rim. Superlative complexity on the nose: rich mushrooms, forest floor, cedar, moss and wet leaves, dangui Chinese herbs, butterscotch taffy, molasses. Gentle and round on the tongue: prunes, mocha, shiitake, licorice, clove, sandalwood, black cherry, dried figs, and iron-alkaline briny blood. Very savory with subdued fruit, but tannins still fully structured. Loooooong finish, all the way to the heart. Euphoric ending to a lovely Christmas. Cheers to my mother-in-law. — 10 years ago
