Moillard Grivot

Domaine Jean Grivot

Les Roncières Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2011

Decent burg but as usual overpriced @ £80 but as it was a gift I quite enjoyed it 😁 the nose after a good decant is lovely 👍

🍷 Garnet cherry w/ brick edge

👃 Smokey wet earthy chomped dark mashed cherry w/ oak, leather, herbs, green stalks, red berry, prune, blackberry & mildew - fab aromas

👄 Light-Med body of dirty earthy dark cherry & blackberry w/ green stalky tones, cocoa & prune

🎯 Med lift finish of squished blackberry & cherry that evaporates

Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1966

#birthyear murky brickish red. Still plenty of red and cherry fruit with some interesting spice. On the downward path but a few pleasant beverage. I think Dujac buys this RSV land later on. — 8 years ago

Harry, Domaine Dujac's RSV holding is actually owned by Dr. Wilf Jaeger, and Dujac farms, vinifies, raises, & bottles under the Domaine. Interesting if same parcel.

Interesting. I'm reading 'Pearl of the Cote' right now. If I understand correctly. Part of Moillard RSV was sold to Arnoux and Cathiard in 1984. Which Cathiard then sold part back to Moillard. Then there is the 2005 sale which splits up the Moillard (Charles Thomas) purchase between de Montille and Dujac (Jaeger leaseback).

Brawny but softened enough. Classy and rich. — 9 years ago

Les Beaux Monts Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Pinot Noir 1978

On the nose slightly faded. Woody red fruit. A sharpness... madirized quality but then softer cherries, forest floor and a subtle intensity. Slightly tart and abrupt on the finish — 7 years ago

Showed a nice aged quality on the nose - some nice spice and forest floor - palate could have given more sweetness and length. A nice wine

Grivot was an Accad disciple then. His newer stuff is much better. This would have been fun, though.

Not a mind blowing nose but has a very elegant truffle, forest floor and stones soil nose with hints of baking spice and fresh to decaying rose petal. Incredibly elegant plate, sleek tannins but with some spicy red fruit, still has time. — 7 years ago

Ripe, cherry sauce, roses and stems, wild herbs, perfume, tin can, cinnamon, a little cedar. Changes constantly in glass. A reminder of why we like Burgundy. — 8 years ago
