Effortless power, somewhat evolved but retains youthful energy and firm tannins. Harmonious integration of fruit, oak, and earth components. Benefits from aeration. — 8 years ago

Domaine Jean Grivot

Les Beaux Monts Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Pinot Noir 1978

On the nose slightly faded. Woody red fruit. A sharpness... madirized quality but then softer cherries, forest floor and a subtle intensity. Slightly tart and abrupt on the finish — 9 years ago

Showed a nice aged quality on the nose - some nice spice and forest floor - palate could have given more sweetness and length. A nice wine

Grivot was an Accad disciple then. His newer stuff is much better. This would have been fun, though.

Domaine Jean Grivot

Les Suchots Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2001

Came out ready, with tea and earthy notes, crinkly dried leaves and well integrated tannins. A bit more advanced than the Beaux Monts — 10 years ago

Decent burg but as usual overpriced @ £80 but as it was a gift I quite enjoyed it 😁 the nose after a good decant is lovely 👍

🍷 Garnet cherry w/ brick edge

👃 Smokey wet earthy chomped dark mashed cherry w/ oak, leather, herbs, green stalks, red berry, prune, blackberry & mildew - fab aromas

👄 Light-Med body of dirty earthy dark cherry & blackberry w/ green stalky tones, cocoa & prune

🎯 Med lift finish of squished blackberry & cherry that evaporates

Starting to show yummy savory secondaries, really in a nice, expressive place and a real deal for under $150 on a restaurant list. Some will find it a little thin, but I'm okay with that because it smells amazing. — 12 years ago
