Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1988

Part of a Chateau Mouton Rothschild vertical from 1988-1990. The 1988 shows great color and is quite charming with notes of cassis, tobacco, leather some bell pepper and a cinnamon bark sort of thing on the nose. Structure remains firm and this was a little greener than the ‘89 and ‘90. There is no risk of this falling off anytime soon; probably good through 2038. — 8 months ago

Clone 6 Unfiltered Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

We had the 2013 Vintage on 5/2-3/21. This was a terrific full bodied, well balanced wine. Tastes of blackberry, plum, kirsch and vanilla on the palate. The tannins were smoothed out. A great example of the Napa floor. — 4 years ago

Monthly WTF wine group tasting. This month’s theme was chardonnay from any region or vintage. Nice eclectic bunch! All wines tasted blind.

Winner of the “biggest imitator”. This was very ripe, as though the wine was meant to be made a certain way. I think the entire group called this new world. Good bit of oak in play here, alongside melon, apple crumble pie, and hardly any acidity. Typical baking spice notes of nutmeg and vanilla too. May be starting to oxidize a bit, which probably gives this some complexity. Thanks

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2001

Lovely. Some odd odors during the first hour after opening- blue cheese and cabbage.

Good color, smooth, soft, rounded and light tannins.

Cork was a complete mess- took about 5 to ten minutes to clean out.

Mushrooms, bell peppers, cedar and cherries. Delicious with dinner of filet and lobster, asparagus and potatoes.

Old Weka Pass Road Pinot Noir 2016

See several previous Delectable notes on this wine and vintage. A pale crimson colour with tawny garnet shades. Aromatics of red fruits (strawberry) and Sous Bois on the nose. It may be pale in colour but carries a Medium plus palate intensity of good length. A very good 2nd wine from Bell Hill from the Canterbury district (just to the north of Christchurch) which deserves more recognition as a source of high quality Pinot Noir. Also referred to as the Waipara District. — 9 months ago

This outstanding Chardonnay is a testament to how the Okanagan vineyards just keep getting better every year. From the 2019 “Canadian Winery of the Year” comes this delightful Okanagan Chardonnay. Presenting enticing notes of citrus and “stone fruits” matched perfectly with a bright, smooth mouth texture from its gentle oak aging it leaves lasting legs. Cheers 🍷🇨🇦 — 5 years ago

heavy pencil shavings and cigar smoke on the nose. black olive and green bell pepper too. color is definitely what you’d expect in a 20 year old wine. palate is consistent with nose, very bordeaux-lite. heavy cigar box. a lot of olive and herb tapenade character. some black pepper on the finish too. very savory overall. — 2 years ago

Chateau Grand Traverse

Dry Riesling 2017

This bone-dry Michigan Riesling is a mineral-driven wine. Light golden in color, it has a nose of citrus peel and a wet driveway. The aromas aren't terribly complex, but as Spencer Tracy said, “What’s there is cherce.” On the palate there are flavors of lemon and lime with a chalky minerality. Acidity is almost racy, certainly zippy enough to handle a sandwich or salad. The finish is lengthy and reminiscent of an older vintage Riesling, quite nice. — 6 years ago
