Estate Bottled Barolo Nebbiolo 1967

Dried cherry, mushroom, leather, balsamic & floral notes, great acidity. Still fresh & vibrant. The reason for trying this wine was that the Krause family bought this winery for 6 mil euros and then bought the Vietti winery and will incorporate some of the Serafino Vineyards into the Vietti wines in the near future. — 8 years ago

Tuck Beckstoffer Wines

Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

07' Tuck Beckstoffer Cabernet. You guessed it...Comes from 3 of their iconic vineyards. The Beckstoffer DR. Crane/ Missouri Hopper/Las Piedras (what a combo)100% new oak. Little more then 4 barrels made. 07' was the inaugural release.

The color is purpleish/black. Decanted for 1 hour... needs more. Full-bodied & elegant. I think most people would smell this & guess "Napa cab". Black cherry, raspberry, cigar-box, oak. Pleasing, with an extended & inviting finish. It's got another a good decade in front of it. Crowd pleaser...

I love the aromatics on this wine. Always thought this was the feminine expression from this producer versus their masculine Las Piedras bottling. Raspberry, blackberry, graphite and cedar. Tannins have softened a bit in the last 18 months and this is ready to go with an hour decant. — 6 years ago

Reserve Beckstoffer IV Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 1992

Still deep ruby. A little bottle funk then a more red-fruited nose than one would expect, given the color. Some wood and tobacco notes that make it very Bordelaise but still fruit forward. I think this is the precursor of Las Piedras? — 6 years ago

I remember purchasing this wine in the mid-1990s. There were about 20/$25 a bottle. Very enjoyable. Actually visited and stayed at that house in Lake County.

LPV Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Compared to the Anthem winery LPV wine, this one has just about an identical nose. The nose of this vineyard just seems to be a "purple" kind of note. But, the wine seemed to be very different. This wine was a little on the lean side. Entered with black cherry and a hint of fig and dark chocolate in the middle. Finished with a moderate youthful tannic bite. The sweeter side of this which it probably displayed 2 or so years ago has started to soften, and is starting to allow some more interesting notes in the future. Probably one of the more balanced LPV wines I've had to date without a doubt, but it failed to hit the upper rung of wines today. The Rudd Samantha's and 2005 Spoto Private Reserve stole the show. Regarding this wine, I think it's probably a good idea to lock it up for 5 years to see what it has in 2023. Considering what people pay for these bottles, you've got nothing to lose by aging it in this case. — 6 years ago

Memento Mori

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Another serious Sam Kaplan concoction (Sam is in the photo...not the one with the snake). A Cabernet Sauvignon blend from the famous Dr. Crane, as Piedras and the Weitz Vineyards. Deep color, staining the glass (and anaconda decanter...that will never be the same) and layering the sides of the glass with beautiful, plush opaque runs. Full-bodied to almost dense, but still trademark Kaplan lushness, balance and great finish. Dark cherry fruits and more chocolate than cocoa on the tastebuds with a touch of spice on the nose. Already a stunning wine at 2014, with proper decanting. I am sure it only gets better!! — 7 years ago
