Had this the other night. It was pop and pour and it could have definitely used a decant. I love Mike's Kenefick cabs and this one is no different with the hints of blueberry and dark fruits. A little hint of sweetness on the palate, but I would imagine with a few more years of age that will dissipate. — 8 years ago

Keeping the Mike Smith vibe going with another '09 cab. There's a nice streak of minerality running through this that reminds me of Mike's Pellet cabs. That would be a fun side-by-side comparison if I had more Spring Mtn cab. Unfortunately, this was my only bottle. — 8 years ago
Caymus, especially the last few vintages, are polarizing, I know. However, my wife claims this is her favorite wine. As you can imagine, this anniversary vintage is difficult to find, but my buddy @Mike R came through BIG when I told him I was searching for my bride. He graciously sent 3 one liters in exchange for some recommendations of my own. Needless to say, in Mike's own words, my wife is smiling huge! Many thanks to you, Mike! Our family opened this up at my wife's request as we put together the finishing touches for our trip out to Napa in 2 weeks.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Ivo Jeramaz on my last visit to Napa Valley. He's the nephew of winemaking legend, Mike Grgich and has taken the lead in much of the wineries day-to-day operations along with Mike's daughter, Violet. Ivo is a quiet and thoughtful in his speech—and his wines seem to reflect this. The 2012 Merlot is carmine-hued, and is more transparent than most Merlot I've encountered from Napa Valley. It possesses a kind of quiet restraint and lovely finesse with nuanced aromas of red currant, pie cherries, dried herbs and underbrush intertwining fine tannins a tart acidity. 14.0% ABV | Sample

@David L thank you for sending this bottle to Jennifer and I. Yet again you gift a fine example of Mike Smith work. This is my first time having Becklyn, it won't be the last. Drinks very well at a young age, typical with Mike's wines. Needs a minimum of 2 hours of decanting. Graceful and polished, tiers of plum black currant and smoked blackberry jam. With most of the fruit that comes from Moulds Vineyard I get this cedar and anise of the finish. Drinks well now! Thank you David! — 8 years ago
