Grand Selection Casablanca Valley Chardonnay 2016

Massal 1945 Family Vineyards

Clos de Luz Carmenere 2016

9.0

A welcoming nose of ripe black fruits such as cassis and plum, dark chocolate, black tea leafs, and bell pepper. The palate is warm and deep, and velvety, with a taste echoing the nose. Polished tannins and long sweet finish. The bell pepper note might be a turn off for some, but I like it a lot here.
From vines dating back to 1945 that are genetically different (hence massal selection, as opposed to a single clone). Casa Lapostolle used to buy the grapes for the Clos Apalta bottling.

What a delightful surprise. Made from a blend of grapes, primarily Zweigelt, and a refreshing 12% alcohol. Vibrant acidity masks a hint of residual sugar and it finishes dry. Tastes like strawberries soaked in Grand Marnier. Best 2016 rose of the season so far! — 8 years ago

Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 1997

Nose shows slightly hesitant but well defined notes of beeswax, Grand Marnier, apricotjam, cooked ham, pepper, glue and orangeblossom. Darker candied citrus nuances on the palate, which is quite refreshing and certainly not too sticky sweet. An elegant mature Sauternes, well balanced, finishing nearly dry. Would make a fine wintertime aperitif! — 9 years ago
