Paid €25 for a half bottle at L’Osteria di Giovanni. A nice Chianti Classico Reserva with a good full flavor. Would be nice to find in the United States at a reasonable price. I had a 2019 in January 2026. Just saw that this wine is available in the United States in the 750 ML bottle for $40 at wine Junction in Somerville. Has Vermentino fallen out of favour with Italians and is being replaced by a taste for Chardonnay?
Maybe but I don't want to believe it yet.
On hot summer days there is not much more refreshing than a well chilled glass of Vermentino. Chilled is a must - it still has enough oomph in the nose to release its floral essence. Once it comes up to room temp it can be overwhelmingly perfumey IMHO. Good acid balance.

This ages so well. A balance of mature and fresh: cigars, tomato leaf, eggplant (first time I think I ever said that!), cassis.
Finely structured tannins, the acids have mellowed a little but still very present.
