We wanted to give a Montrose a try before the 10 year mark. No disappointments here ! Very dark blackish rubi robe, very reticent nose with hints of violets, a full bodied mouth with very silky tannins and very long finish. Decant 2 to 3 hours in advance now or give it another 5 to 7 years. Great wine that always punches above its ranking (in spite highly ranked!) and enthusiastically recommended. — 5 years ago
A big bold plumy purple bomb As dense and luscious as a wine can get in a glass. Decanted for 2 hrs and its still a baby with blackberry, dark chocolate licorice and pepper on the nose and on the palate. A long long finish and loads of tannins to sum it all up — 6 years ago

Blend 95% Cabernet Sauv, 2% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, splash Malbec and Petit Verdot, blended before being aged 24 months in American Oak, 50/50 new and second used. Deep Ruby color with aromas of black fruits, spice and hints of cedar. On the palate flavors of blackberry, raspberry and currants with licorice, cacao, vanilla and savory herbs. Fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit, spice and savory mineral character. Nice!

Another great bottle. 2009 out of 500ml (was meant for bistro and not import). Lovely from a ripe year. I prefer the less ripe / more restrained versions but this is as good as vacqueras gets. The new vintages are top notch but fun to try these older ones as well: modern and plush but still some old school roots. Fantastic. Got this bottle last fall at the winery - considered one of the very best in Yarra Valley. Celebrating our son's 21st birthday and this was SO worthy. Huge fruit up front - especially for a 2008 and a beautiful dry finish. Splash of Viognier makes for an amazing nose. — 8 years ago
1/2 bottle with low neck fill and perfect cork. Probably just smell the cork all night as beautiful purplish color and tight seal on top. Wine drank amazingly well but certainly lacks the depths of a better vintage. Good tannins and acid left as well nice core of fruit that was there for 15 minutes. — 10 years ago
