Cinsault - 130+ year old vines
Organic, unfiltered, nouveau style, 12.5% abv. Body is light, red fruit, med acid, some tannin, good food wine, spring picnic and warm weather red. On second day of being opened, more fruity raspberry notes appeared.
From website:
Twenty-five acre own-rooted Bechthold vineyard, planted in 1886 by German immigrant Joseph Spenker, is the oldest continuously farmed vineyard in Lodi.
Nestled in the Mokelumne River area of Lodi, the organically dry farmed vineyard with head-trained vines is believed to be the world’s oldest surviving Cinsault vineyard. — 6 years ago
Sleeper! Can’t recall what I paid for this, but it was stunning: immediately showed gorgeous notes of all manner of red fruit & cassis, strong vein of minerality along with sweet schisty soil, loam, clay, spice, white pepper a ton of other notes. Reminded of CDP and Gigondas. Such purity, beautiful old vine material handled well - oak accented/enhanced - all polish & a fine cut. Captivating complexity as it unwound over the course of a couple of hours. Dead sexy — 4 months ago

Petrol nose at first. Great complexity and evolution. Glossy, slightly gluey texture that coated the entire mouth, front to back. Acidic with sweet undertones. Pickle juice! — 4 years ago

Nose is vanilla ice cream and and raspberries. Tastes beautiful at first with more fruity raspberry and vanilla cream goodness. As it develops it gets drier and more leathery. Delicious. — 4 years ago
You can smell the alcohol on this one. Ripe berry nose, with mint, fennel, and licorice. Wow. $15 from Village Corner. — 5 years ago

2021. Opened two nights ago without time to decant and enjoyed a glass which had really intense aromas and bright acidity and earthiness on the finish. This rating is for the glass we had tonight. Tart cherries and berries, floral and herbal, all integrated. Delicious wine. — 4 months ago
