Combe Aux Moines Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1998

I don’t know what to think of this throughout the experience. It was funky with all kinds of damp wood and forest floor and exotic dark incense type characters very 1er Gevrey. In the mouth it was deep and rich but still with lift and verve fruit intact and a nice finish. By the bottom of the bottle the aromas were so heady, like concentrated brand new leather interior of a car still going down easy with a nice extract and fruit wrapped in complexity. Have never even heard of the producer. Excited to see the other couple bottles! I’m giving it an extra .1 because it’s 22 years old and holding nicely. — 5 years ago

Combe Aux Moines Vieille Vigne Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 1999

A little sleepy at the outset but ascended late. Some game musk on the nose, Elegant and supple fruit with bright black cherry, wood pulp and limestone. — 7 years ago

Lovely. Sappy cherry fruit with balancing acidity. Vineyard sits below NSG 1er Boudots, catercorner to Vosne 1er Malconsorts and above Vosne aux Reas. My last bottle. — 2 years ago

La Miette... Pinot Noir Blend

What a wine. Fun expressive and bright. Taste of raspberry lemon and sculpting clay. Had on Christmas Day with Beef Bourgogne but would be equally as good on a warm day with vegetables. — 5 years ago

La Combe Aux Moines Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 1999

Killer Wine Night. Lineup of 17 wines. Tasted blind. Theme was Old World Killer “B” (the letter “B” has to be the first letter in one of the proper nouns in the wine e.g., region, varietal, type, winery name, etc.)

Wine 6. mushroom, strawberry, plum. Lot of tannins. Surprising on the reveal given its 20 years old.

Yes, the 2002 is indeed delicious without that metallic Notes marring the ’03. Complex, earthy but light on its feet, just what you want for a Burg! Oh wait, the others are au Renard — 3 years ago

Vieilles Vignes Au bas de Combe Nuits St. Georges Pinot Noir 2005

Just down the hill from Aux Boudots in NSG and just south of Chaumes in Vosne Romanée. Lovely bottle that went very well with Boeuf Bourguinon. Opened 2 hours ahead and slow O’d. Harmonious. — 5 years ago

Nice bottles and love that you had the patience to save some 2005 Villages.

Fuller and grippier than I thought it would be. Very well balanced, nice earth and a little funk. Just liked the label ;) — 10 years ago

From one of the great Premier Cru sites in the Combe aux Moines sector, this Le Moine beauty offered classic Gevrey perfume, elegance with power, & seductive balance/grace. One of the better 2001's I've enjoyed to date. — 10 years ago
