Did someone say cheap Nebbiolo? I'm game. Hailing from Northern Lombardy, it's called #Chiavennasca here. Slightly different, but just as good. While Piedmont tends more to power and fruitiness, the wines from Valtellina are a bit more earthy, yet graceful. This one has aromas of strawberries and flowers. The palate is soft and tart. It's also got that funk. As crazy as it sounds, this bottle reminds of a really pretty farm. That's a good thing.

I remember 1st time reading the wine note , I 'm confused by all these words such as linden flower ,gooseberry,genet,locust.... Growing up in Asia,I am not familiar with so many fruits or woods I 've never seen in supermarket, I thought a wine note should be able to reduce the complexity of the tasting of wine , not the other way around. I could not find a way to resolve this till I meet this wine. When I taste cask23 , after a sip of of FAY, another sip of S.L.V and sips of some white, I felt like finally I meet the goddess. If FAY is a fair lady, SLV is a leaping stag or elf, Cask 23 is the godness. I could not find a other word to describe this wine characteristics overall , not by naming it after fruits, the complexity, elegancy, as well as amazing glimpse, everything makes her a prefect lady. A real goddess beats Old world wine in 1976 XD💪💃💃🎈👍😄 — 10 years ago
Waves of classic FAY aroma : cocoa, baking spices, and chocolate. Undertones of graphite & leather. Taste is rich with blueberry, cassis, underripe blackberry, and leather. Integrated, spicy oak and mineral characteristics distinguish the hillside from the more alluvial FAY. Good juice! — 11 years ago
Nathan Emilio gave me a bottle of this to bring back to the winery. Good stuff. — 12 years ago
Staff tasted this at Market Table NYC. This wine is beautiful. The best of Beaujolais style and California in perfect harmony. Very fresh, bright and elegant gamay. Thank you Raj Parr, Duncan Arnot, and Nathan Roberts! — 9 years ago

Super tannic at first with a lot of fruit. Over an hour it mellowed a bit and some acidity started to come out and balance things out. If you like fruity Napa cab with lots of tannin this is for you. — 9 years ago
Aromas of green bell pepper, tomato stalk, raspberries, jalapeño and cooking spices; round and big palate, balanced acidity with firm tannins; flavours of raspberries, red cherries, peppery, vegetal notes and a bit jammy on the finish — 9 years ago

Big red fruit flavor. Some light notes of sour cherries, black raspberry tea leaves. Notes of sage on the palate. 100% cabernet. Named after the owner of the land in Napa Valley. Fifty represents the 50th anniversary of the vineyard. Good luck finding it. It maybe allocated. — 11 years ago

Ok....loss for words. Wow doesn't do it justice. 2012 vintage that just keeps getting better as it opens up. Beautiful deep purple color. Berries, dark cherries, something with a slight sweet hint I can't place and of course the minerals I love from SLWC on the nose. Nearly perfect balance on the palate with smooth finish. Only downside is I only have one bottle of this great wine. — 9 years ago
