Limpid orange. Highly perfumed, mineral-accented strawberry, cherry, tangerine and floral aromas are complemented by a subtle herbal nuance. Vibrant red berry and zesty orange pith flavors show fine clarity and a dusty mineral flourish on the back half. Finishes very long and focused, displaying firm tension and repeating florality. Very good value for a Reserve Cab. Raspberry and blackberry and slightly nutty flavors. I would buy another bottle or two. — 5 years ago

Scrumptious! Vanilla, hazelnut, cinnamon. Smooth, full mouth feel. Great with a grilled sirloin and roasted butternut squash. At the lake w Chas, 11/14/19. $10 — 6 years ago
This was a really nice cab. Paired well with chili. Bold flavor, yet smooth. Cherries, strawberries, and a bite of citrus at the end. Dark plum color. I would absolutely buy again, would go fabulous with a steak. — 4 years ago
Limpid orange-pink. Expressive red berry, blood orange and pit fruit aromas are accompanied by building mineral and floral nuances. Taut and energetic in the mouth, offering sappy strawberry, orange zest and lavender flavors braced by a spine of chalky minerality. Finishes silky and impressively long, with repeating mineral and floral notes. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, July 2021)

Zoom event with Drew Bledsoe and Josh McDaniels. Vertical from ‘07, ‘14, ‘15, ‘16, ‘17, ‘17 estate, and ‘18. All were exceptionally smooth and silky with good depth of fruit. Notes on the ‘18: 90% CS, 5% Malbec, 5% Merlot. Least favorite of the night. Still a good wine but perhaps a bit too young, or just different enough from the others that I liked ones with a bit more age. This wine had a little more density than the others and perhaps a little more earth and graphite coming through that masked the fruit. It still had the classic doubleback elegance of the others but I felt we were not seeing this wine’s true expression. It only had about 1 hour in the glass and perhaps I need to pull another bottle, decant for a few hours and see what it does. — 5 years ago

Vivid straw-yellow. A suave, intensely perfumed bouquet features fresh pear, tangerine, iodine, buttered toast and smoky minerals that show superb definition and spicy lift. Penetrating, concentrated and sharply focused; a core of juicy acidity supports powerful orchard and citrus fruit and honeysuckle flavors that deepen through the midpalate. Rich but lithe as well, with superb finishing energy and mineral-driven tenacity. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, September 2020)

Located in the limestone-rich Gavilan Mountains, east of Monterey. Josh Jensen planted Calera's first 23 acres of Pinot Noir in 1975. De Villiers, planted in 1997 on east-facing slopes high on Mt. Harlan. Third year of drought conditions lowered the yield in ‘14, aged for 20 months in new French oak (30% new). Intense aromas of dark berry fruits with rustic spice. Palate shows tart blackberry and dark cherry flavors with smoky tobacco, oak and subtle spice. Tight tannins, lingering complex ending, very nice. — 6 years ago
Tossed in to a mix of red burgs, and it stood out as a new world pino with it's cleaner fruit and "modernity" (as G puts it, less VA?). I think it's all about the structure of the wine in comparison. Josh's was definitely lighter versus the d'Eugénie and Mugneret-Gibourg, the acid perceivably more prominent (almost steely), and minerality less so (if any at all). That's not to detract from Josh's really delicious creation, it's just different.
A light wine with heaps of flavour built around a red fruit core. Reflects the vineyard well I feel, having worked with the fruits from the Newnham family (same plot?) in 2017 and briefly in 2018 - small berries that produced lightly-coloured, aromatically charged wines with minimal tannins. This was in the same vein I feel, but Josh certainly pulled a lot more subtance out of these fruit than we did at KW. He's managed to weave in spicy, earthy, herbaceous nuances, and definitely extracted more colour. Mouthwatering acidity and commendable length. Probably the best Australian pino I've had all year (not like I had much to begin with)! — 4 years ago

Pale orange. Finely etched red berry, citrus zest and floral aromas, along with building herb and mineral flourishes. Taut and nervy in the mouth, offering sappy strawberry, cherry and tangerine flavors that show fine delineation and spicy lift. Closes firm and right, with persistent red fruit notes and a refreshingly bitter edge. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, July 2022)
