Diane de Belgrave

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Final meal in Paris. I had read about Anthony Bourdain liking this place because of its simplicity and perfectly cooked meat. (Apparently one of his favorites in Paris). Great meal to close our week in Paris, especially if you like fire grilled meat as much as we do.

The Diane de Belgrade was a textbook Bordeaux. I liked it even more after a bit of time in the glass. This wine is also a reminder that even simple bottles can be amazing. @Robert et Louise in Le Marais.

As you should! A well executed steak grabs your mind and doesn't let go until you find the next best version.

Clos De La Tech

Domaine Lois Louise Twisty Ridge Pinot Noir 2013

Dark garnet color, strong jammy nose of dark plum, some earth & oak. A touch jammy in the mouth, full of fruit but with medium tannins and and ending dryness with an acidic final pucker. Medium body, dark red/black fruits, touch of spice. Very nice-even better as it warmed & more air- went to 9 from 8.9. — 5 years ago

Mas des Flauzières

Four Danuga Gigondas Grenache Blend

One word describes this wine: satisfying. It paired so well with my Entrecôte and his rump steak that we walked out feeling fine and not stuffed. Good acidity and tannins to stand up to the meat-a-palooza we consumed. Right and stewed fruit and a fantastically long finish. PS Robert et Louise is a must if you find yourself in Le Marais. — 9 years ago

Aalto

Ribera Del Duero Tempranillo 2012

While sharing chateaubriand with Mrs A at the Post Hotel in Lake Louise AB we asked the hotel owner to pick the pairing wine. He selected a 2014 Aalto Ribera del Tempranillo to our pleasant surprise. The following are my tasting and consuming notes. The intoxicating rainbow aromas of licorice, black fruits, coffee and leather reflect the alternating layers of lime stone, marl, chalk under the silt and clay topsoil of this stellar appellation. The weather extremes of hot days, cool nights only adds to its exceptional phenolic presentation. Aged for 18 months in oak it displays bright acidity, fine grained tannins finishing with an integration of spices, herbs, woody tones and traces of vanilla. Medium-bodied, balanced, complex layering and long legs this wine proved to be the perfect pairing. Kudos to George Schwarz for this selection. Cheers 🍷 — 8 years ago
