2014 vintage $4.99 at Grocery Outlet Hayward. I’m a sucker for that whole Roman thing. Beats giraffes or whales on the label! Will be enjoying with spicy sausage, white beans, and zucchini. cork may be a little too moist. Beautiful plummy to raspberry color showing its age a bit. Intriguing black pepper on the nose. Stewed red fruits and hints of char lead into smoky barrel influence on the palate. Tart berry in the background. Medium body, lovely sour berry finish. The smokiness will play well with grilled meats. Grenache is one of the most widely planted grapevines on the world Garnacha en Espana! — 7 years ago

Merweh, Jardin secret, 900m. Sémillion essentially and this is oxidative made. The nose is bonkers, intense Brazil nuts, smoke, and a distant memory of pineapple and canned apricot. Even more fun in your mouth. Fruit intensity returns, more herbal involvement (esp thyme) and there's a really pleasing structure and long finish. Pretty strong case for this being an entirely different beast to aussie and French sem. — 3 years ago
