Surprising amount of fruit given the last Prospect772 that I had (either a 2009 or 2010). Found this gem tucked away & I guess I had low expectations - could be my last 772 was a Brawler. Either way 100% Syrah & darn tasty. — 4 years ago

Phenomenal qpr at 36 bucks. This was our syrah blind tasting night winner. Meaty, powerful syrah. Brawler and instigator are top rate syrahs. Beautiful property in calaveras county (sierra foothills). Ron is a great guy. — 7 years ago

Love, love, love this wine from an ex maker of the revered Penfolds Grange and instigator of RWT.
A gem of a wine that punches well above its price point. 18 was a good vintage but this is already drinking well with some development. It’s going to be stellar in 6-8 years. — 3 years ago

1/2 syrah 1/2 petite. The petite 1/2 is from livermore's casa da vinas vineyard(managed very well). This is amazing juice for the price. The 2013 got 92 pts wine spectator. 27 bucks retail. Glad this is on the way to the cabin. One of my favorite wineries. Instigator syrah might be my favorite california syrah. — 8 years ago

The Brawler Calaveras County Syrah Viognier 2016

Pre-release party in alameda. All the 2016s.

My rankings:
1) brawler- 94 (2nd biggest wine)
2) black tie - 93 (1st biggest wine)
3) instigator - 93 (3rd biggest wine- more elegant than previous vintages. While it used to be all solano county syrah, it is now blended with a lodi vineyard)
4) truant - 92-93 - solid gsm
5) brat - gs that i need to try again. The oak was coming off a little strong on the small taste i had.

Hear the shake ridge syrah in barrel is midnight black in color and going to be a rockstar. Looking forward to seeing what he does with that vineyard. — 6 years ago

@Shay A ive for sure gotten meaty and savory on the brawler/instigator in previous vintages. I only had small tastes of the 2016s but they are more primary fruit at this stage. I would recommend the brawler right now because i need to retry the instigator with a full glass as it’s a new vineyard blend.

@Paul Treadway Huntington Beacher Bum consistent as always. All great values. I have 2 cases sitting in front of me. When the shake ridge comes out, it will be a little pricier but that’s because of the fruit cost. My girlfriend actually prefers the brawler to the myriad georges iii. She gives the brawler 95 and myriad 94.
