Decanted one hour:
Tobacco, leather, meatiness on the nose. This is a man's wine! Alcohol is strong in the final notes. 16%!!!
A drunken pool of blackberry and boysenberry liquor fills the palate, with white pepperiness and an astringent finish.
A slow sipper that draws you to embibe faster than advised. 0 to drunk in 20 minutes if you're not careful! — 7 years ago
Had with dinner at the Elkridge Furnace Inn, 8/22/18, $40. Very crisp, nice acidity, and flavors of stone fruit. — 7 years ago
Camping with my daughter on Catalina island. I grew up in Colorado so the silver bullet and the banquet beer were staples in my family home. Heck I hit on Pete Coors daughter in high school, she turned me down more times than the sheets at the holiday inn. Ahh sweet memories. Did you know Coors was heavy into ceramics?? Go check it out. That’s you cliff Clavin fact of the day. Cheers! — 7 years ago

Blown away by this one. First had it at Mirbeau Inn after and incredible dinner. Fantastic drink. Smells like dark chocolate. Notes of dark chocolate in the drink. Some smoke. Notes of pepper. — 9 years ago

I dare you to smell this and tell me you don't wish you had a fat juicy slice of boysenberry pie in front of you. This big boy packs and delivers. No wimpy wine here. Big, bold, in-your-face acidic, iron-fisted dark fruit. Not the fruity jammy zin of northern Cali. This is Italy on steroids. — 7 years ago

Drinks with Compensation Committee at Ojai Inn, 1/24/19. — 6 years ago
Chocolate and leather envelope mounds of leafy cherry compote across the nose. Dark and earthy yet fruity enough without crossing the line of sweet. Earthy spiced inky berries emerge as the bottle breathes. A bigger bolder version of a Northern Rhône’s production. — 7 years ago
Blackberry jam and lingering campfire incense nose. Pie. Pie. Blackberry Pie. Crusty and crumbly and baked to perfection. Berries burst upon lips' touch. Dessert in a glass, but by no means sweet. Highly astringent, succinctly slicing that pie on the finish.
Decanted briefly, but may certainly be decently liberally with gusto! — 7 years ago
2 hours decanting minimum recommended. Blackberry, coffee and a little bret on the nose. Full berry tobacco and tannins followed with a bitey lengthy finish. A fighter! Atypical for montepulciano, a great disguise and perfect for a blind tasting to surprise a winey crowd. Pair with a mild gorgonzola cheese; the intensity of the aged bleu cheese I paired overpowered the wine, but was matching in the complememtary flavor palate. — 7 years ago

2015. Good, but can’t compare with the 2014 we had at Sonoma Mission Inn in Sept 2019. Wouldn’t buy again for $50. — 6 years ago
