Ripe fruit gives way to baking spices baking spices baking spices. Jammy but not overly so. This is a unique little number, very interesting and agreeable — 8 years ago
Blueberries and plum on the nose. High tannins. Velvety to drink. Sweeter than the Howell Mt. Higher acidity, sweet throughout, finishes smoother, well rounded tannins, more refined than the Howell Mt. medium dry finish. Beautiful wine. Decant at least 45min — 9 years ago
Dang it! No more 2012's anywhere to be had. Asked the table of winos if anyone was squirreling away any 2012's in their home stashes. They were all smart enough to say no. So even though it is not the epic 2012, it was still the preferred wine over two other big Napa Cabs. Still has a big fruit and smooth finish. Just can't rate it higher because of the prior year's greatness. — 9 years ago
Not sure why others haven't rated this one a little higher. My only guess is that they didn't allow for ample time for this one to open up. I enjoyed this bottle last night and noted that with each hour after the initial two hours I allowed it to breath, it only got better. At first, I found it to be quite "tight". But after a few hours, the flavor profile fully developed and it calmed down enough that it was very much delightful. Garnet in color with a medium plus viscosity, I very much enjoyed the layers this wine presented after some time in my glass. — 10 years ago
Same as last wine but higher up@the hill, pretty, and austere... Amazing — 10 years ago
Had higher expectations for this... will need to try another bottle. — 8 years ago
Maturing nicely. Would rate higher but couldn't shake bitter espresso character...these wines are certainly marked more by oak than other traditional houses imho — 8 years ago
Wow. Beautiful. Totally disagree with the ratings here....much better, much higher quality wine. Earthy. Dark, luscious. The nose is strong and over powering at times, but the taste and finish are elegant, smooth and sexy. Just awesome! — 8 years ago
Definitely a treat and not a trick!! Very similar to the Domaine Eden Cab but slightly higher price point. Let this baby open up, but one of the best finishing wines I've had! Goes awesome with beef tenderloin, celery root gratin, almond joy, twix, and gobstoppers!! — 10 years ago
Very nice NZ SB! Apparently Jules Taylor used to work for Kim Crawford and Cloudy Bay but then went into business for herself. Dinner at High Steaks Restaurant in Thunder Valley. Initially rated it higher but after having it again had to lower my rating. — 11 years ago
"Would you like some ground pepper?" YES! — 11 years ago
Very extracted - lush and fruit driven - a heart 15.1 % alcohol offered on the label but my sense is that it is higher — 8 years ago
Nice smooth body 😉.
Jokes aside was shocked how good this Syrah is. Full bodied, chocolate covered in cherries (yes that way around) with a hint of cherries covered in chocolate mixed in with some plums (tastes like ripen in plum barrels?). Good intensity!
Goes well with spicy food , it stands it's ground in regards to density and volume. And taste. love it!

Celebrating a friend's new house! Fresh and bright is how I would sum up this wine. Fresh cloves, marjoram, thyme, and cinnamon mingle with fresh, early season raspberries and field mushrooms. Fresh, black currants and red-blackberries glide onto the palate, unfolding into ripe pomegranates and grapefruit pith and finishing in pot roast, fresh ground white pepper, and caraway seed. Sexy tannins on the end with a medium finish. Could cellar longer, but excellent with food now. — 9 years ago
Up front you're hit hard with ground white pepper that lingers for several seconds before the cherry cola and stewed black cherries come to play. Nice rounded mouthfeel with good minerality, subtle acidity and a nice lingering sense of new leather. Very enjoyable indeed. — 9 years ago
Needs two hour decant. Muted nose and higher acidity until it opened. Pretty cab blend with higher tartness at the finish. Unfortunately this was the weakest among a very strong line up last night. — 10 years ago
Super floral aromatics. Higher acid. Definitely showing the best today. Great wine on a hard vintage. — 10 years ago
Very excited to get my hands on a bottle. A nice balance of Chenin and Reisling. I enjoyed letting the wines temperature rise slightly and taste the different layers. — 10 years ago
Delicious tart cherries and vanilla finish. Love it, great sipper on its own — 11 years ago
2005, fine, freshly ground black pepper, earthy and savory. — 12 years ago

Great wine at a great price. Not a big fan of their higher end labels but this consistently over delivers for the scratch. — 8 years ago
