Another monthly WTF Group meet up. Northern Rhône vs Southern Rhône, blind as usual.
In a group of 8 guys, what are the chances this wine is brought twice? Weston and I both ended up bringing this wine, albeit in different groups. I decanted this for a little under two hours and that was without a doubt the sweetspot. Most confused this for northern Rhône based on texture, but it still had a significant amount of black pepper in comparison to the Guigal it was poured alongside.

Just so enjoyable tonight, with an elegant structure, savory aromatics, and a sharp mineral-driven finish. An old world treat to end a day of new world wines. (Post Peter Michael Winery dinner)

Oldest producer in Gigondas. Great value alternative for any fans of
Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Tasty stuff.

Nice and fresh with tannins waiting to round up. Worth trying in 5 years.

Meaty and so, so Rhone. Great for the first day of winter with snow.

2010. Thought this might pair well with some Ethiopian lamb dishes that we had ordered, but when I tasted it, I could tell it needed some time in the decanter. It ended up pairing very well with the aftertaste of lamb. We loved it. Peppery, leathery aromas with a fantastic tannin/acidity/mouthfeel structure and a finish that lasted minutes!
