Acid. Stone fruit. BBQ chicken. The Germans might not have known it, but they made a delicious match for this KC style BBQ sauce. Mosel wins again. — 8 years ago
I wasn't a big fan of Mosel GGs in the past. It never clicked between them and me. But the 2015 vintage might change that. Wonderful fruit (lemon zest, grapefruit, white peach and slightly apricot) underlaid with this typical minerality. In the mouth the wine starts quite and then gets louder. Like a Crescendo. More on the elegant & fine side. Long finish and potential to age. — 9 years ago
Bright, light golden colour. Smoky minerality creeps out of the glass, seaweed shrimps, deep fruit like grilled lemons, touches of banana and juicy fresh pineapple, too. Very floral, only a hint of metallic rusticity in the back. Also a faint sweetish impression of sauteed carrot or parsnip. Oily mouthfeel, legally Trocken. Refreshing, yet deep and complex.
I suppose this is going downhill very slowly now. But what a surprise...!
Geltz Zilliken Saarburger Rausch Riesling Spätlese Trocken 1990
APnr.: 6-91 — 10 years ago
Very fresh at 15 years old. Perfect with true Ma Po Dofu - helps ease the numbing of the peppercorns. — 7 years ago
Quite a step up in complexity & depth compared to the Kabi. More exotic flavours like pineapple, mango and lychee mixed with a lot of ripe peach. But you recognize the undertones of minerality immediately.
On the palate this wine has so much tension, extract & what we call in German "Spiel". Amazing balance between sweetness & acidity. Long, long finish. Astonishing life ahead. — 9 years ago
Classic stone fruit and citrus with touch of rs. — 9 years ago
Aromatics were very enticing and not overdone and the acidity was turned up to 11 — 10 years ago
Herbal, tropical and very mineral. A whole army of dried mushrooms on the nose. Magestic palate of sunny fruit and still enough acidity present to balance the powerful nose. Drinking wonderfully and was the highlight of the night. 10/10, would do it again. — 10 years ago
Egon Muller IV purports 2005 as arguably the greatest vintage from the Saar in his lifetime. Zilliken echoed the same sentiments as well. The density and concentration here is mind boggling at almost 10 years of age. — 10 years ago

The "Diabas" is vinified like the GG but with a bit more residual sugar so it couldn't be a Große Gewächs according to the VDP rules.
More round & warm compared to the GG. More "crowd pleasing" imo. Nevertheless a wine with a lot of potential. Think this could be stunning in 5-10 years. — 9 years ago

Honey, camomile, rounder more elegant than the regular Rausch Auslese 2010. Creamy texture. Love this! — 10 years ago
