1998 Domaine G. Roumier Bonnes Mares Burgundy. Lunch w J&H R and Leon at The I.I. K took a chance on this wine- not a terribly notable year- and it was out of this world. HR particularly loved this. Bottle had been standing for 2 weeks, which K thinks contributed to making a huge difference in our enjoyment. Color was completely clear- no murkiness. We had a hard time pinning down the nose on this wine. No hard edges- super subtle in texture, taste, and nose. K makes note how surprised he was that this wine is drinking so epically right now. — 10 years ago

1998 La Spinetta Gallina Barbera d'Alba. ELO at HB w J&H R and Leon. We were surprised by how much we liked it. Note to get more of this wine! Really well balanced- some fruit, leather, soil, and smoke. Not a super notable finish, but greatly enjoyed this. — 10 years ago

Magnum 1998 Cheval Blanc. Third red for dinner at the house w B&K K, J&L B, and M&R H and BP. Awesome! So much fun to try this Bordeaux after the 2002 Domaine des Lambrays burgundy. This wine felt young, even though older than the Lambrays. A bit tight at first, despite decanting a few hours. Fun contrast of round vegetal and green noted, stronger tannins. Such a treat. Magnum 1997 Dal Forno Romano Amarone dell Valpolicella. Drank at Reddwood lunch w B&K K, J&L B, and M&R H. Third of the red lineup. Neither K nor I had tasted this before and it was delicious. Enormous and inky. It was just massive both in flavor and how it coated the mouth. Slight sweetness. Very cool to try! — 10 years ago

The final Wine for the day No. 6 from Vosne Romanee blew me away and I gave it 99 points as did J H. I was convinced it was one of the DRCs. Being La Grande Rue it is over the narrow dirt road (Rue) from Romanee Conti and is a Monopole. My blind tasting notes - “Glorious restrained nose showing some whole bunch complexity. Beautiful Balanced Seamless. Fine and long. Unbelievable. Must be RC or La Tache “ A fair mistake given that La Grande Rue lies between Romanee Conti and La Tache. Interesting that Allen Meadows describes La Grande Rue if he only had 2 descriptors as Refinement and Generosity. Could not agree more.!
In summary another amazing tasting. Next years covering the 2015 vintage will be mind boggling!!! Cannot wait! — 8 years ago

Magnum 1990 Bruno Giacosa Falletto Di Serralunga d'Alba Riserva Barolo. Drank at Reddwood lunch w B&K K, J&L B, and M&R H. Second of the red lineup. This followed the magnum '98 Solaia. We all thought this wine tasted a lot older than its age. Perhaps stored a bit improperly at some point? It didn't drink poorly, but everyone at the table would have guessed it much older than a 1990- sweeter and shorter finish than anticipated. — 10 years ago
