Urbina

Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 1994

Ridiculously delicious. For a 23-year-old wine, the acidity is fresh and there is still the perfect amount of tannic structure. Beautiful garnet color, dried strawberries, dead leaves. Smells a bit like a honey baked ham. — 9 years ago

Grateful Dead Steal Your Face Red Blend 2012

The 2012 is Zin-like! Fruit & spice and everything nice. Fruit up front, with a lingering peppery finish. This red blend remains a great daily driver. Be careful, the 14.5% will 'steal your face' if you don't check yourself! — 11 years ago

Marcassin

Marcassin Vineyard Chardonnay

Big and rich Chardonnay still oak notes after 11 years. Hazelnut and caramel corn. Still has minerality present few years of life left (like my cat except more teeth). Granted I could come home any day now to find wine or cat dead but the future looks bright for both. — 11 years ago

I like my Coudert with age. This is glorious on the nose. Underbrush, dead leaves, oolong tea, cherry fruit, mint and an over all damson vibe. Palate is elegant and mineral with nice juicy fruit but there is some drying tannin that is concerning upon opening but seems it could knit well together with air. We will see. After 15 minutes this is glorious. The tannins are getting sweeter and while still firm the fruit is getting there and it is becoming balanced but also showing nice aged aromas and on the palate but also showing a youthful exuberance. I like aging wines from "difficult" vintages. Sometimes you can age the the "difficult" aspects into something "interesting." This wine was so so in its youth. — 10 years ago

The wine that gets better every vintage. Confections abound when popped and poured and then it settles into its floral/nutty/honey aromas beautifully. All of this framed by a slab of limestone. Also a verbena/green tea aroma adds complexity. Unbelievable texture. So silky and soft yet buffered by a taut spine of acidity that is so well integrated it only reveals itself on the finish. Great concentration Long finish with honey, tangerines and minerals. What finesse and sophistication here. Drop dead. — 10 years ago

Château d'Yquem

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 1947

Perfection in every drop. Viscous, drop dead gorgeous with a stunning iodine like color, bright and deep. The nose is perhaps of the most complex I have ever experienced in my life. a beautiful blend of light anis, quince marmalade, creamy Madagascar Bourbon vanilla, warm notes of cedar and TONS of botrytis. I am still dreaming of this spectacular acidity, almost divine, ethereal, feather like. This is not made by Man, this is of Divine proportion. — 11 years ago

Selene

Dead Fred Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

2012 vintage - very deep, dark Cab. Brambly dark fruit aromas. Palate is huge, yet not over the top. Dark berries, stewed plums, licorice and tobacco notes. Very good. — 11 years ago

Very fruit forward and you can tell it's a young wine. With that said it is well balanced and an excellent wine to drink now or law it down for several years. — 13 years ago
