First time trying wines from Gibbs Napa Valley, one thing that really sparked our interest in Gibbs, is that they are making high quality wines out of Napa Valley juice for an affordable price point. We started off with their Chardonnay, it was clear and straw yellow. Beautiful nose filled with lots of tropical fruits, like guava, melon, and other white fruits. Slightly nutty undertones on the nose as well. Definite oak influence in this wine, but thankfully no buttery notes (not butter in our wine fans). Creamy texture, full bodied that was balanced with some great moderate acidity (6/10). Lots of white fruits such as pears on the palate. Hidden underneath were some soft vanilla notes as well. As it opened up there were some light earthy/outdoorsy notes like some light hay with a moderate plus finish. As for day two, there was nothing there....seriously the bottle was empty!
We are generally not the biggest white wine fans but over the past month with trying wines like this Gibbs Chardonnay, it is starting to lead us towards the light. We guess you could say that. Stunning Chardonnay and killer QPR/value wine. If you love Chardonnay and you want to try something under $25.00 but not your always on discount wine at your local grocery store, you need to check this one out! — 10 years ago
A well-crafted tasty Napa Cabernet at a nice price. Velvet tannins with nice dark fruit and black cherry with a touch of pepper. It has all the elements of a thoroughly enjoyable wine. — 11 years ago
Great drinking bold red- pairs well with heavy meats like lamb and steak. Enjoyed in Tanzania at Gibbs Farm while on safari. — 12 years ago
Next was the Cabernet Sauvignon from Obsidian Block which is actually located on the Gibbs Estate. Wine was a deep crimson red. Nose had some interesting characteristics of some greenery and dust. Once it started to open up there was something a little dirty like moldy cheese, baking spices and undertones of dark berries. The palate changed quite a bit between day one and day two. On day one there were slight prunes and candied fruit just before the finish. On day two that wore off to light red berries with slightly more acidity and moderate tannins (5/10). Body was moderate and thinned out right before the moderate dry and acidic finish. Just wanted to note that this had a decent amount of Petit Verdot in the blend, around 16%.
Another great wine from Gibbs Napa Valley, we would love to hopefully try out their reserve one day after seeing this great single vineyard Napa Cabernet. Definitely a great QPR/Value wine! — 10 years ago

Spanish wine of the night. Ok, the only Spanish wine, but still a treat. Post HdR dinner with Bill Gibbs and friends at Heart Stone/G2 Vineyards — 10 years ago
