Punchy blackfruit, full-bodied, dry, pleasant finish. Nice, but no distinguishing features. Not bad at $24 CAD. — 4 years ago

Les Piliers Cabernet Sauvignon

Color of dark purple with dark ruby and a bit brown hue. Nose is pretty nice with oak, black cherry, vanilla, aldehyde, and tobacco leave. Taste is silky yet dry, just a tiny bit sweet, with soft tannins, some more dark fruits like cherry notes, some more vanilla, and tasty. Aftertaste shows milky mouthfeel, some more tasty note, and addition of mineral and rustic metal note. Pretty good find. — 5 years ago

Esprit Gassier Côtes de Provence Rosé Blend 2017

This is awesome. Tons of strawberry and peach on the nose with the little bit of herb. I was worried that the palate would be overly sweet, but it is absolutely not. Beautifully balanced. Probably my favorite rose so far — 6 years ago

Cercius Grenache Syrah

A really good red blend. It's just the right amount of dry. The flavor in your mouth afterwards is like the wine walked through with its boots on. Maybe a little bitter. — 6 years ago

— 4 years ago

Rich, luscious berries in this not overly heavy wine. Very smooth. First bottle was ready to go, but second bottle required time to open up. — 6 years ago

Les Halos de Jupiter

Côtes du Rhône Grenache Blend 2014

This pops with vibrant strawberry and kirsch, but continues reverberating with incense, citrus peel, damp chalk, and licorice. I would happily spend $15 again, but this gives me the confidence to trade up to Halos Gigondas or Chateauneuf du Pape the next time around.

Finally trying this label... Considering the esteem to which I hold Philippe Cambie and my love for Grenache, it's been a long time coming. Cambie, along with a Michel Gassier, produce Grenache-focused bottlings from nearly all the Southern Rhone AOCs under the Halos de Jupiter label. To Cambie, Grenache is the king of all grapes, thus the comparison to Jupiter (Zeus in Greek), forming the basis of the label. The halo symbolizes the appellations that best express the personality of Grenache. http://www.philippecambie.com/en/les-halos-de-jupiter/

@Tom Casagrande But Parker stopped reviewing Southern Rhone, handing the reins to Jeb Dunnuck, so maybe Cambie's wines are now Jebberdized or Dunnucked 😜 But seriously, I get your point and while I might disagree with term, his wines are certainly extracted fruit bombs. Whose Grenache from Southern Rhone do you prefer?

Any wine made by a member of the Reynaud family! . . . if you can find them. Chateau de Tours CD-R is probably the least hard to find. Fonsallette CDR (not the Syrah one) is the bomb, but $$$ and hard to find. As an appellation, I find Gigondas to have a lot of traditionally made Grenache predominant wines at reasonable prices.

@Tom Casagrande Indeed, Rayas lights it up top to bottom.

Domaine Gassier

Supergod. — 4 years ago
