What a stunner. Sweet fruit is fading but awesome earthy, tobacco goodness in full effect. Sangiovese with age can be a beautiful thing — 11 years ago
Beautiful, rich, port-like, notes on the nose lead into this very New World take on Tempranillo. Nose has excessive black fruit, baking spice, and fresh orange blossom. Palate is mouthcoating with bramble, licorice, and cigar ash pulling together nicely. Tannins are just a bit over the line from graphite texture into rustic. Alcohol seems surprisingly balanced despite being at 15.7% on the label. Finish is long and very pleasant with a gingerbread effect lingering long after finishing the glass. Good wine here. — 11 years ago
Medium body. Had it with lasagna and it paired beautifully! Cherry, blackberry with a bit of that oak aging effect. Had a nice finish. Will definitely buy again. — 11 years ago
A spectacular wine still showing lots of black fruit along with developing leather, coffee, sweet notes, and some nice menthol. Palate is elegant with plenty of bramble fruit and spice. Texture is velvety without the typical Aussie Shiraz milkshake effect. Finish is a solid medium. — 11 years ago
Great southern Rhone quaffer! This bottle was the 2004 #winewednesday in full effect — 11 years ago
Absolutely deliscious Cab blend. Amazing value. — 11 years ago
2004—part of a Vieux Telegraphe vertical. Excellent, with layers of good dark fruit and hints of leather and smoke, plus a nice earthiness overall. A lesson for me on the effect of bottle age. (And also how pro ratings can be off the mark—this was wonderful!) Drinking nicely now... — 11 years ago
Really in a good place. — 11 years ago
Wow. We're drinking this with a dessert cheese plate and it is exquisite. The big winner pairing is Red Hawk, followed by Valdeon. The wine gives a toasted apricot essence on the nose and a rich lingering palate of dried apricots. When paired with the Red Hawk it gives an Amaretto effect. The sweetness also pairs nicely with the salty Valdeon, each balancing the other out and somehow improving each. — 11 years ago

2011 Paso Robles Syrah...smokey suede pepper — 12 years ago
Hands down winner from today's #Elevenses @Christie's Wine. Bottled in the 70s, recorked in 2011. Sercial, so you know the acidity is in full effect, but the wine is really harmonious and balanced. It's not as "offbeat" as some other older Madeiras I've had, and honestly would be straightforward to pair with food...roast chicken, for one. — 11 years ago

Love the Luyt. Carbonic, but without that cloying kool-aid effect. Did really well with some cumin-y lamb burgers with a hint of heat. — 10 years ago
