La Crau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2009

A little hot on the nose and palate but still freaking delicious. Nose carries through with red fruit compote, licorice whips, leather, balsam, lavender, roasted herbs, moss, funk, and meat. Palate plays more on compote, licorice, and balsam with kicks of spice and leather. There's that savoriness coming through on the palate as well. Despite some alc. poking out this is really beginning to show well. Expecting more organic earth, black tea, and umami notes in the future but still a brilliant perfume right now. Tannin still has a little edge that keeps the wine balanced. Humbled to try wines like this when I can. 375 ml — 9 years ago

This 2012 did require some waiting for the funk to blow off, unlike the 2013. Worth it. — 10 years ago

Quite the funk bomb. Needed time to open but when it did it became much softer and even balanced. tasted like a classic older Bordeaux. — 10 years ago

I love a light red that packs a punch and this wine is exactly that! Bright acidic cherries, smoke, and funk with a little plum and currant on the nose. Get it in your mouth! — 11 years ago

Cuvée Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend

9.3

Definitely drank too young, but man, it's darn good right now. The nose is funk and herbs, with some dry leather thrown in, the tannins hit hard right away, but aren't astringent or bitter. The mid palate holds well and the herby/funky classic CNdP carries through. There is a slight sweetness from the alcohol that is a bit more than what I want, but it's a great classic CNdP. — 10 years ago

Ageno Malvasia di Candia Blend 2008

Super weird and funky, but I loved it! It was recommended that we get it, and two people working in the restaurant came to warn us when we ordered it :) Lots of funk, minerals, edginess, but it all settled in as we drank it and got better and better. Not sweet - very dry and despite all its interesting factors, it paired really well with our food (which was pretty rich). No idea where I'll find this again but I can dream! — 11 years ago
