Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Pale and bright and citrusy and fresh and delicious. Crisp and easy to drink with a green apple sort of bite and a honeydew fullness. Very yummy, one of my new top 5 Sauvignon Blancs. — 4 years ago

Maximin Grünhauser Abtsberg Spätlese Riesling 1986

The condition of the bottle was remarkable - the wine was fresh and crisp, like the day it was bottled. Bright with a tinge of green, no signs of TDN at all. Only the mellowed acidity gave any indication of age. Insane!

Despite all that, the wine itself was rather disappointing. Not really complex or deep, and finish was quite short. I guess it did come from a tough vintage. However, it had the classic Grunhaus lightness - drinking more like a kabi than spat. In conclusion, an easy fun drink that fell below expectations.

Fe Ciega Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

Bright green herbs, fresh flowers, fresh purple fruit. Not overpowering at all but a good delicate but not sloppy wine. Easy to drink but enough fruit forward that the flavors don’t get lost as you enjoy the bottle. — 6 years ago

Burgenland Grüner Veltliner 2016

Peachy, green (yes, gruner), salty, fresh, yum. Accidentally drank a whole glass just in the time it took me to pick something to watch. (Admittedly, I was taking a long time to pick something. But it’s hella easy to drink is what I’m trying to say.) — 7 years ago

Bodegas Vivanco

Rioja Viura Blend 2016

This Rioja white wine is made from 50% Viura grapes, 35% Tempranillo Blanco and 15% Maturana Blanca, and they claim it's the first wine in the world made from those varieties. The grapes were grown in estate vineyards located “in different Rioja terroirs.” The Vivanco Rioja Viura Blend 2016 is pale in the glass and offers up a nose of citrus and wet rock minerals. It's a gentle set of aromas, and the palate follows suit, with easy acidity - still quite fresh, though - and flavors of lemon pie with a spray of green apples. It should pair very well with white fish, risotto or pasta with butter and pepper. — 8 years ago

Fresh, fruity nose. Light, crisp and very fresh on the palate. Light peach, pear and green apple flavors lead to crisp minerality and a touch of salinity. The finish is long and easy with lingering minerality. — 9 years ago

I am loving what great winemakers did in '13. What a stunning nose of lemon candy, minerals, some funk and so clean. Lovely palate. Ripe and juicy with being pristinely clean and so pure It reminds me of a mountain stream. I love these wines. Balanced and fresh with nice easy going acids and great amplitude and volume on the palate. Lovely flesh and dominant mineral tones. Green apple and pear skin abound. — 9 years ago

Campbell Lane

Willamette Valley Pinot Gris 2019

Pale lemon in color with a green hue.

On the nose citrus, vegetables, herbs, green apples, earth, minerals, and grapefruit juice.

Medium bodied with medium acidity. Crisp and refreshing with long legs.

Dry on the palate with limes, grapefruits, citrus, green apples, lemons, bitter herbs, earth and vegetables.

Tangy finish with limes and almonds.

This young Pinot Gris from Oregon is easy drinking and tangy, with a soft mouthfeel. Surprisingly good out of a can.

Earthier on the nose than on the palate. As it opens up, grapefruit notes show up on the nose, and nicer with some airtime, so be patient.

I had an older vintage of this wine, and it definitely is better with some age. I wonder how it would age in a can, though. For now, it is lemony and refreshing. A nice sipper by the pool.

Good by itself or with food. Will pair nicely with fresh seafood like oysters.

Aged in neutral French Oak barrels and stainless steel for 11 months.

13.3% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

$8.

Cinque Querce Irpinia Aglianico 2015

Medium purple with light garnet flourishes in the glass. At five years, this is already a bit austere and unflinching. And that’s a compliment. Fresh violets, green pepper, Kools, and dried cherries on the nose. This is probably the most intense easy drinking wine I’ve ever had. Everything here is just spot on and correct. Wonderful balance despite the intensity of the fruit. Full bodied with medium acidity, this is a glorious combination of rustic excellence and Italian sophistication. On the palate, there’s plenty of exquisite forest floor goodness, earl grey tea, and soft red fruits dance. This is an alluring and outstanding Aglianico from Avellino. Drinks way above the price point. — 5 years ago

Pebbles in the mouth, a light green herbal aspect I can't pin down, fresh citrus pith. Dry finish. Way too easy to drink, damn.

Update: Ok, this bottle needs a ton of air, stunning now, almost Chablis-like in minerality and fruit/acid levels.

Champoux Vineyard Red Bordeaux Blend 2011

Welcome to Easter weekend and lets start the weekend off right with a wonderful Bordeaux Blend from Andrew Will, the 2011 Champoux Vinyard continues to impress. This is a right bank blend of 54% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc and 18% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The nose is beautifully expressive with notes of blackberry, black cherry, black currants, tobacco, licorice, chocolate, herbal notes, spice, violets and fresh tilled soil.

On the palate there is well balanced notes of black cherry, blackberry, black currant, green bell pepper that I love oh so much, chocolate, graphite shavings, and floral notes.

This is a full bodied wine with medium + acidity and firm outstanding gripping tannins. This wine does not disappoint.

Everyone have a great Easter weekend and please take thing easy, be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Very interesting wine to say the least. Aromas of toast, yeast, green apple, orange blossom and quince. Round and rich mouthfeel with crisp lemon dominating the palate. Less acidic than its French counterpart but fresh and easy drinking nonetheless! Great alternative to an uncharacteristic Pinot Grigio. — 9 years ago

Taittinger

Cuvée Prestige Brut Champagne Blend

Sometimes you just want the usual comforts without sacrificing any quality. The customary pale gold in the glass with a creamy mousse and abundant perlage. A very easy going and aromatic nose of citrus fruit and floral accents. Pencil shavings, pears, and biscuits. As far as entry level bottles, this is head and shoulders above many. Not lacking in elegance or balance whatsoever.

Impeccably fresh with a luscious mouthfeel and classy structure. This improves considerably after some time in the glass. The palate follows the nose closely with more floral and yeast notes. A little elderberry, honey, and green apples to compliment. Long refined finish. Really nice and pleasant from first sip to the last.

DeMorgenzon

Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Somm David T
9.1

The fruits are brighter than the Chardonnay. Pineapple, white peach, green melons, ripe, cantaloupe, lime, lemon curd, touch of canned pears, grassy notes, yellow & spring flowers with lilies.

The body is lean, fresh and lively. After the leaner, bright fruits subside, grippy minerals take hold overlaid by white spice and powdery chalkiness. Pineapple, white peach, green melons, ripe, cantaloupe, lime, lemon curd, touch of canned pears, grassy notes, yellow & spring flowers with lilies. The acidity perfect. The finish is delicious, easy to drink with nice balance.

Photos of; the Estate vines of DeMorgenzon, suspended stainless tanks which, allows them to work the wine by gravity, barrel room and Cellar Door grounds.

It needed an hour decant to come around and blow off the barnyard funk. After that, elegance, ruby blue and red soft fruits; blueberries, bright cherries, fresh juicy strawberries, some cooked green bell early on that gradually faded, steeped tea, soft saddlewood & minerality, a touch of easy wet black earth, pebbles. The 88 has all the classic characteristics and elegant finish one comes to expect from Pichon Lalande. Not their best but pretty darn good on Christmas Eve into Christmas.
