Riesling can have complexity and character at every price point. The same can’t be said about Chardonnay or Pinot or really most any other grape. This wine I could drink every day. From old vines, it has aromas of honeyed lemon and flint. Terry Theise says it best. “ If you were offered a wine from a great vineyard from ungrafted 113-year old vines, and that wine came from France, Italy, or Spain, you would pay a fuckload more money for it.”
(I paid about $15) — 7 years ago
Dry but not too sour. Sip for the aroma and the loooong finish. I am not a sherry expert, but this is elegant. — 7 years ago
V13. Creme brûlée nose. But terry, melon and pear fruit with a creamy, toasty oak finish. Beautiful wine. — 8 years ago
Very deep red color, mineral, clean, very long on smell. Meaty, silky, full bodied, rounded, very well balanced, coffee, cocoa. Perfect to pair with typical roasted baby pig. Just for a very special event. Bought at the winery in our last trip where they explained to us its very special production process. — 8 years ago
2006 Salmon Undhof Kögl Riesling held up well, as expected. Defined structure, elegant yet not at all overbearing. What a middle- aged Riesling should be. 13.5% vol, a Terry Theise selection. — 9 years ago
So so good and not at all reflective of the $15 I paid (on clearance). Sweet rieslings are a hard sell for wine shops and I’ll continue to take advantage until the public eventually comes around. These wines are so misunderstood.
Meulenhof is a beautiful golden color and has a spectacular nose of petroleum, cinnamon, passion fruit, and baked lemon. Voluptuous and sweet with explosive fruit flavors. Think lemon verbena, lychee, honey, and orange marmalade.

A depth and richness only found in the US interpretation of picpoul thanks to a UGA boy; fine with sea bass and mashed spuds — 8 years ago
Disgorged 2016. According to a friend who worked at Veuve nearby, Arnaud's wines sell out quick at the winery each year. Can certainly see why - this cuvee drinks so well. Fruit driven, with a solid core of apple, pears, and lemon curd. Oh so floral, nutty, yeasty. Reminded me of walnut butter, and MO of gruyere. I also got this pleasant vanillin tones in the finish.
Notes from Skurknik:
I wish I were named “Cuvée le Brut instead of my actual name, Gibbery Wobblestein. “Terry Theise” is a pseudonym. To the matter at hand—this superb non-vintage is 55% 2013 and the balance is 25% ’12, 10% ’11 and 10% ’06; deg 1/2016, it’s an exceedingly refined, high-toned classic Margaine, White-flowers, with sushi-knife cut and chisel, and overtones of jasmine. This wine rides the thin line between Chardonnay and Riesling, and when it’s on form it’s a thorough original, and one of my most beloved Champagnes. 92-8 CH/PN. — 8 years ago
Right away this wine was very smooth, it didn't need any time to aerate. This was a very delicious wine that had plenty of flavor. — 9 years ago
Pizza dinner with Arcadian winemaker Joe Davis. A Terry Theise selection imported by Skurnik wines. Disgorged August 2017. — 7 years ago
Azienda Fratelli Pighin was founded in 1963 when brothers Ercole, Luigi and Fernando Pighin acquired a 500-acre estate in the D.O.C. Grave-del-Friuli zone. Straw with full fruit and floral aromas. On the palate tropical fruit flavors, fresh and crisp with perfect balance. No oak on this wine, medium finish ending with fresh mineral ending. Nice value. Tasting Sample. — 7 years ago
Another winner by Justin Smith at Saxum, the 2010 Terry Hoage is a nearly equal mix of syrah, grenache, and mourvedre (with a slight dominance of syrah - 46/33/21). The tannins are sweet and completely resolved, so the palate beautifully follows up the sweet blackberries on the nose with a seamless mouthfeel, lots of glycerin, and a balanced, lingering finish. Cannot imagine this wine drinking any better than it is right now. — 7 years ago
Current release from Terry Leighton. Simply incredible. This is what California Chardonnay should aspire to be. 21 years in bottle and displaying stunning freshness and vibrancy. Much less oxidized than I imagined- slightly golden color with bright yellow reflections. Lemon peel and blossoms bursting out of the glass leading into apricot and honey. Gorgeous hazelnut and butterscotch aromas. Tasted blind I would have most certainly called this as older Meursault. A true joy to drink and a cult treasure for oenophiles to seek out. The QPR is what really elevates this to rockstar status. — 7 years ago
I like this almost as much as the Count's* Terry Thomas moustache. A cassis-fest of sweet fruit with good structure, over-delivering for a weak vintage.

A monster of a wine! This takes me back to all of the wonders of our last Paso trip. Merry Christmas, you filthy animals!!! — 10 years ago

Really fruit forward and fresh for a rioja. Sweet round fruit on the front and mid palate, but with real energy and life. Almost none of the traditional leather and cigar box I associate with rioja. Juicy, only medium bodied but very very good. With fernando and yolanda and racquel — 6 years ago
