The winner of the Downs Club Premium Red taste off from 41 masked Reds. Not my final choice but democracy prevailed by 4 votes to 3. This was in my final 3. A nice balance of sweet red fruits with some spice and hint of pepper. Balanced and smooth. Will cellar up to 10 years but overall a little too sweet for my palate. This 02 took some time to open up but it really blossomed. Lots of barnyard on the nose and great berries - blueberries, blackberries and strawberries. Very well integrated wine with nice balance — 8 years ago

This past Saturday I attended a get together with close friends. We opened the 2014 Saarloos & Sons Family Tree Rhone Blend. 55% Grenache, 27% Mourvedre and 18% Syrah. This was the hit of the evening that turned heads and got people talking.
The nose was light with cherry, raspberry, plum, cinnamon, black pepper, anise, roses and an earthy gravel.
On the palate was beautiful fruit of black cherry, blackberry, plum, black pepper, anise , clove and a good gravel component.
The wine was soft velvety smooth with a medium mouth feel and medium to plus acidity with medium smooth tannin that leads to a medium long finish. A very enjoyable wine. Almost the weekend please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 7 years ago

Such a complex wine, a crazy nose, so much depth. Looking forward to what it offers tomorrow — 9 years ago
Best paired with Leo in The Revenant....I was instructed by the salesperson at the wine shop to let this open up for 20 minutes "to get past the hairy armpit stage" and to even decant it. Hmm okay? I think any Burgundian would disagree with the decanting bit so I just popped it and let it breathe a while. This had great structure. Oak and alcohol on the nose. Velvety on the palette with Earth and some remaining essence of oak. — 9 years ago
