Always really enjoyed this producer, wish we could see more on the market, love the citrus intensity mixed with the classic lactic quality. Great stuff. — 9 years ago

2014 - San Martino della Battaglia is one of the smallest DOC in Italy, that counts 30K bottles for 8 producers. This white is based on Tuchì grapes (actual name for Tocai), it represents a bold move to reaffirm its past identity and visibility to the market niche of Tocai/Tuchì aficionados. An amazing small jewel to discover on the southern shores of Lake Garda. — 11 years ago
With the Wine Blight laying waste to her vineyards, France went from 8:1 exporter in 1870 to 6:1 importer in 1887. Legions of wine farmers faced total financial ruin. With no cure - or even a proper diagnosis - in sight, many saw no option but to flee to lands not yet affected.
The influx of institutional knowledge that flooded into former backwater wine regions like Rioja catapulted them into relevance, and soon matured into a world-class standard. The farmers had found respite, but couldn't run forever. By the time Phylloxera crossed the Pyrenees, however, there would be new ways to fight back.
French botanist Jules-Emile Planchon had a theory. If the blight was caused by a microscopic American insect as he suspected, perhaps grafted European varieties on American rootstock would be resistant. This would be confirmed by Missouri entomologist Charles Riley, and with millions of rootstocks supplied by Texas horticulturalist T.V. Munson, the Wine Blight was soon in remission.

Very enjoyable, but not a great value given other cheaper blends on the market — 7 years ago
Nice. Covers all the bases: leather, cedar, gravel. Still had some fruit as well. Alcohol a bit noticeable on a otherwise good finish. Why aren't there more library releases from petit chateau on the market? — 10 years ago
Soter's 2012 Mineral Springs 'White Label' Pinot Noir has a rather unique story in that it is crafted from an unidentified "heirloom" clone. Who cares what the clone is, the results are spectacular. The perfect combination of concentration and finesse, the nose is a romp through a damp and earthy forest glen, fields of lavender, and then to the market, to find juicy blackberries and blueberries at their peak. Equally lush, almost brooding on the palate, with underlying layers of minerality and spice. Pinot reserved for the white label is aged 12 months on 50% new French oak, with 30 days extended maceration and minimal racking. 14.0% ABV — 10 years ago
A near perfect rosé at a great price. I prefer this soft fruit tempered by a light floral note all properly and proportionately positioned against a mineral intensive rocky bottom as swift waters twist and turn their way downstream leaving one's palate clean and refreshed but laced with the memory of the moment😎🌀 - buy the magnum at my favorite local Morehead City, NC hang - Promise Land Market (thx sweet Janeen and Daniel for spinning some crazy sweet tunage!)! Loved! Light, not super tart. Get it again! No longer at world market. Found at target — 7 years ago
Tim’s Wine Market $22 — 7 years ago
A delightful Pinot. On the nose graphite, smoke, licorice, and tart cherries. On the palate bright cherries, leather, dark berry medley, anise, sweet pipe tobacco, with hints of game. While not generally my style this is a PN I actually wouldn’t mind having on hand due to it being a quality, approachable expression. — 8 years ago

When my pal, Ian Cauble, MS, tells me it's the best rose on the market, I figured I had to try it. He was right. Typical Bandol complexity, bone dry, strawberry, and much more. Great for pairing with food. — 10 years ago

Very nice wine that opens with aerating. Tannins are the perfect amount. — 11 years ago

This 2008 is like drinking seductive poetry! Grapes sourced from the Red Mountain AVA. Lots of sediment to filter out and aeration opens it up. My goodness this is smooth. — 7 years ago
