Strong and fruity. Full body. Perfect with red meat and a red sauce pasta — 5 years ago
Cheeky little Italy Dolcetto D’ Alba — 6 years ago
Barbera d' Alba 2016 - Giacomo Fenocchio. Vibrant and fleshy, with a deep mineral vein pushing forward its sweet aromas of gooseberry, mulberry, licorice and cocoa powder. Sharp acidity and terroir-driven salinity intertwine with mounting flavors of sweet red berries and blood orange. Finishes pure and lean despite the 15% abv . Awesome! — 7 years ago
Yes. 9+…soft palate, great balance, deep red berry flavor dry nice finish almost elegant everyday or special day Barbera D Alba. — 4 years ago
A good year, a fine wine with balance and context. Good value. Red berries, light fruit and body medium; palate perfect with discernible tannins and dryness - right for a Barbera d' Alba. There are better Barberas but this is right for red meats, strong cheeses. — 5 years ago
A great Barolo and for less than $60. Nebbiolo leather and spice on the nose. Typical high but well balanced acid on the palate with raspberry and bright red fruit. — 6 years ago
This is the best Barbera d’ Alba from Sottimano , started to drink this wine 15 years ago, new style more elegant, fruity and delicious to enjoy. Just a hint of oak, well done🙏🇮🇹 — 7 years ago
Nicely balanced Barbera! Doing this after the fact...from memory. Recall great drinkability, fine balance with good fruit, mild palate, soft finish. A cut above most Barbera D’ Alba’s. — 7 years ago
Had this in Rome at the cutest little bar, surrounded by Italians : D. Il Sorpasso by the Vatican. Fabulous wine! Not as harsh as a Nebbiolo. Smooth and medium bodied, medium dryness. — 7 years ago
Fruity, fresh, short at the finish — 8 years ago
Again, not a mere DOC, a superlative Barbera d' Alba, from Marchesi Di Barolo. Aromatic, Balanced. 2018 Vintage. Rich full palate deep dark berries all evident, dry not tannic but for a touch. Mysteriously elegant, big flavor for Barbera. Have drank many times in the past and will continue to do so... — 4 years ago

Local distributor no longer carrying Red Cat by Hazlitt Vineyards, this was recommended as a suitable substitute. I have to agree with the recommendation. — 8 years ago
Such a beautifully expressive & high toned Langhe, if only other Langhe's could give back so much at a young age. — 9 years ago

See previous Delectable Notes from June 2020. Very dark Ruby in colour. Ripe cherry and liquorice on nose and palate - cherry skins. A medium weight palate finishing with fine powdery tannins. Dolcetto is essentially a simple wine (went well with Quiche) but when made by a producer of the reputation of G D Vajra its a particularly good representation of the grape. See previous note from October 2021, 48 weeks ago. Not sure I’ve ever got my head around the characteristics of Dolcetto - like a detuned Nebbiolo. Notes as previous with fine chalky tannins. — 4 years ago
