La Geynale Cornas Syrah 2018

Going through a Rhône/Cornas phase at the moment and really loving it! This was our valentines wine but its perhaps not the most romantic wine ❤️ 😂. Opened very fruit forward and was instantly enjoyable. Over time developed a more umami/meat note which paired well with our steak. This has great potential but already lots to enjoy! — 3 months ago

Out of interest, what would you suggest as a more “romantic” wine?

Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2018

Very much on the dark, earthy, minerally side. So dark and full of smoky ember crushed stone that I’d almost be tempted to place it half-way around the world in Walla Walla. Palate is rich and dark, a highlights more savory minerally notes than fruit. Distinctive and good but not a typical fruity Crozes. — 6 months ago

2015 vintage. Aging gracefully and should continue to do so for at least another 12-15 years. 9.19.23. — 8 months ago

Les Perrières Meursault 1er Cru Chardonnay 2014

heavy reduction and a blast of spritziness. Matchsticks and bright lemon with a hint of marzipan. Salinity and a slight metallic bitterness on the finish that spoils the overall somewhat. Maybe age will mellow it? — 8 months ago

Good and very cherry but not as much as some other younger wines. Not sure if I like this more than the other higher end petite sirahs of theirs. — 3 years ago

Ardèche Chardonnay 2018

Tasted from a magnum. Bright straw gold color. Aromas and flavors of green apple, unripe pear, tart apricot, almonds/hazelnuts, white flowers, dried herbs and a slight note of honey. A touch of buttery pastry and minerals on the very clean finish. Reasonable balance of acidity and alcohol. Solid wine. Thanks for sharing this one with everyone, Kase! — 10 months ago

La Romanée Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2018

The ripeness of 2013 but buffered by the acidity of a white peach note. And strong acidity. Better today than when opened yesterday. Would not have called it as a Chassagne. None left for tomorrow. — 6 years ago

La Voûte Saint-Vincent Morgon Gamay 2021

Cherry, violet, hay, a tiny touch of licorice too. This is quite exciting and profound. The palate is showing a massive acid backbone, some width and grip, some cherry notes, but the fruit is a little discreet. There are tannins popping up in the rear, disturbing the mouthfeel, powering up a tangy finish with cherry and a nice bitter note along with a tiny salty touch, almost sea breezesque if that makes sense. This is a serious beaujo, very different from fruit bombs and other crowd-pleasing usual expressions that people tend to rave about. This is gastronomy wine and playing in the same league as some other wines from a different varietal that grow a bit farther to the north. — 4 months ago

Séchet Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2008

Light yellow gold. Bright fruit forward nose. Notes of lemon and apricot, wet gravel stone, some honey and a delicious spice. Fine grained acidity hits the mouth and makes an impact. Great nose powers up over the evening. Still young and needs more time to improve. Lighter in the mid palate but still outperforms expectations. — 4 years ago

One of Chablis' best producers from a lean vintage still produces rock star caliber wine. Crunchy minerality, searing citrus elements, with a bit of hazelnut and bruised Granny Smith apple. Sad it is only 750 ml. — 9 years ago
