Crushed granite, fresh white flowers, green apples and citrus zest. Floral aromatics meet an oily grip on the palate. Firm acidity with texture and medium weight. Green apple fruits and minerality carry-forward. Touch of back-end heat. 50% Grenache Blanc, 15% Clairette, 15% Bourboulec, 10% Viognier, 10% Roussane. — 5 years ago
Very traditional and full of character. Great contrast to the Janasse and CNDP I've had lately. Lots of WC influence, old large oak. Earthy, rustic, still elegant. A core of fruit that is the backdrop for a melange of garrigue herbs, flowers, spices, and savoriness. Smoke, baked rock, and peppercorns throughout. A more cerebral expression of CNDP. — 7 years ago
Kate Moss... Boho-chic... Pale, lean, and sexy, with flowers in its hair. Decidedly not a juicy rose, so I can see why there are so many haters. I think the wine likes it that way... — 8 years ago

Do yourself a favor and follow Esther Mobley on Twitter. She’s the Wine, Beer & Spirits writer for the San Francisco Chronicle and her reporting on the wine country fires is extraordinary... “1880s vines at Old Hill Ranch in Sonoma Valley. Gone” (photo credit to her also).
I had to open the 2015 Bedrock Pagani Ranch Heritage from Morgan Twain-Peterson MW (pictured right) which is also from 1880s vines and just a few miles north of the Old Hill Ranch along Sonoma Highway. It had me immediately saying prayers that the Pagani Ranch would be spared — it’s stunningly pure and absolutely glorious... think choirs of angels. As if a top Châteauneuf-du-Pape producer, like Janasse or Clos Saint Jean, traded their 100+ year old Grenache for 100+ year old Zinfandel. Giant, but radiant red fruit that has a kirsch and violet edge to it. Add in some dense blackberry to a base of rich minerality and this soars into a cloud of herbs and spices including Herbes de Provence, adding baking spice, licorice, and wildflowers along the way, with some secondary cured meat and cracked pepper which gives this the depth and complexity it deserves. This is a beautiful wine that is both opulent in the breadth of Ira flavors and aromas yet restrained in its compact nature at this point. Clocks in at 14%abv and is filled with pear, white peach, candied orange and lemon peel and a lush wave of white flowers. Borders on being full-bodied but a delight to drink. Lovely now it will only get more complex with age — 4 years ago
