Fiorano (Boncompagni Ludovisi)

Principe di Venosa Vino da Tavola White Blend

Botte 47. Phenomenally complex and constantly evolving. Initially savory with some animal fur, toasty honey (aged semillon) notes, slight star fruit. Then it evolved into dried flowers, mushroom, and dark fruit - reminded me of a young Barolo. Then black tea, green tea. Then strong dried spearmint, honeyed toasty complexity like the '81 Lopez de Heredia. Medium bodied with slightly elevated sparkling acidity. Not intense, but persistent on the palate. To borrow a phrase from Veronelli- It burrowed into my memory. I hope it made me forever better. — 8 years ago

Da Vinci (Cantine Leonardo)

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2004

Sweet, fruity nose with cherry a the predominant player. Lots of fruit on the palette with chocolate and coffee on the finish. Tannins are still a little young. This will continue to improve for another 5+ years. — 11 years ago

Recommendation from Pam - really enjoyed it, needed time to open up but once it did it was delicious. Dark fruit, medium tannins, black tea — 3 years ago

Quinta da Raza

Dom Diogo Vinho Verde Arinto 2018

The Vinho Verde wine has an herbal and citrus nose and a pleasing yellow-gold tint. The citrus plays a leading role on the palate, but is nearly upstaged by a delightful savory aspect. It’s a nuts-and-fennel feel that wows during the sip and long after.

Cuvée da Capo Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache Syrah 2000

From a mag and showing so well. 2000 was a big crop vintage, yet this wine shows precision and depth. Sweet fruit and ripe tannins that integrate well. Plum, jam jar and fig. Has another 15 years easy. — 6 years ago

Castello di Volpaia

Coltassala Vino da Tavola Sangiovese Blend 2013

Attended a tasting a local shop with the winemaker. The weather was crappy but that ended up being lucky as not very many people showed up, so I got to talk to the producer about her wines for over an hour. This is a single vineyard production they don't make in every vintage. Blend is 95% Sangiovese and 5% Mammalo (a local grape I had never heard of). This is a complex and elegant wine with red fruit, violet, vanilla, and dark chocolate notes. Nice lingering finish. Will plan to stop here when I get to Tuscany! — 7 years ago

Ageing quite nicely - such a sturdy wine. Viscous texture but super dry - white peach, lychee, Asian pear, the green melon. Yummy for a date night at home. Parents of 6 year olds sometimes have date nights at home. It's pretty awesome. — 8 years ago
