Patz & Hall

Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay 2013

Cloudy with sedimentation in the bottle. Bright straw color in the glass with hints of crushed stone and island fruits on the noise. Fresh acidity on the taste as well as nectarines, papaya with a touch of oak. Long lingering finish. Paired with Cypress Grove Midnight Moon Goat Cheese. — 10 years ago

Tenute Sella

Bramaterra Nebbiolo Blend 2008

Cypress bark, cranberry and nutmeg. Buoyant acidity elevates the fine tannins to prominence. Cedar and bright red raspberry with all spice in the long finish.
Needs air and more time.

Poggio al Tesoro

Sondraia Bolgheri Superiore Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2011

Grown in deep soils layered with coarse red sand, in my own winemaking experience, sandy soils yield wines with silky tannins—such is the case with this Bordeaux inspired blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc. The nose is alive and vibrantly complex with spicy boysenberries and plums, dust, decomposing leaves, cypress branches and dried pen ink. And oh, yes, polished tannins aplenty, it's got tons of structure and finesse. I'd lay this down for another decade for more. — 9 years ago

Bergevin Lane

Stone Tree Vineyard Amare Aeterna Petit Verdot 2011

Cranberry, currant, blackberry and pepper cooked into venison shoulder. Hen-of-the-woods cooked into its oaken companion! Plenty of oak bark and licorice here. Smoky blackberry and rich earth round out the variegated smells. This is almost Cornas!
Eggshell, cypress wood, grainy tannins and boysenberry to the front lines armed with thorny green weapons which melt into mouth-coating black poppyseed. There is coffee rye and black currant encased in walnut that becomes ensconced, nailed to your tongue with leaden resolve.
