I’ve had this wine maybe 12 times over the past 25 years. It remains the single best domestic wine I’ve ever encountered. Balance, power, and exquisite grace are the hallmarks. It bursts from the glass with pure notes of cassis and black fruit, but caresses and embraces your mouth. Pure, craven seduction that keeps you going back for more. This wine just keeps getting better and better. Perfect with rare tenderloin sliders and creamy horseradish sauce. — 5 years ago
Interesting contrast to the Wolf & Woman. Whereas that was more classical and sunny, this is leaner, steely, green apple, and comes across more ‘minimal intervention’. Probably doesn’t even see oak. A kiss of VA early that sorts itself out with air. Slightly exotic white fruits and a fine chalkiness emerge. Probably a touch of skin/stem maceration. I will buy a six pack of this. — 5 months ago
A Southern 🌍🌏🌎 Hemisphere wine theme for a small dinner with a dear friend. Some older bottles from our cellar and some younger bottles from another cellar. Paired this evening with Asian-style braised beef short ribs (Kinderhook Farm; Valatie, NY) and grilled polenta.
Notes possibly...Scores honestly. — 4 years ago
Honest Pinot, still primary, built on a modest frame with aromas of sour cherries. Very pure. Nice but a tad short of excellent for me personally. — 6 years ago
Soft and delicate.. very good given it is so young but it’s great in the nose.. raspberry, a tiny bit of sea salt and beach but aromatic on the palette yet very gentle to let you know she is fine to enjoy once opened — 3 years ago

I don’t drink much South African wine. Based on this, maybe I should drink more. This mimics a nicely-aged, high-level Crozes. Very earthy nose has lots of fragrant gravelly sandstoney notes. Underneath there is subtle wild mountain purple berry fruit and a subtle feral/animal hint. In the mouth, it’s rich and low-toned, again with loads of gravelly, dry earthy notes. Lots of soft, cheek-coating tannin initially, the finish tightens up a bit at the end. Nice! — 12 days ago
