Domaine Ramonet

Les Ruchottes Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 1992

A good experience with an older Paul Pernot Batard gave me the courage to bring this into Per se for a "casual" meal with my wife Linda and our friend Jonathan Holloway and his wife. I was always always a great buyer of Ramonet's Ruchottes beginning with the '85 vintage onward until around the 2000 vintage when it became clear that the wheels had fallen off the white burgundy bus. But this wine, this was some kind of wine! No premox, just a marvelously suave, honeyed flavor, supporting acidity, and a finish with great minerality presenting itself as a kind of minty freshness. Always a treat to graze through a magical Keller meal in the Per se reception/bar area overlooking Columbus Circle, even more so when accompanying the meal with a wine worthy of supporting this sophisticated cuisine. — 9 years ago

Belle Glos

Meiomi Pinot Noir 2013

Very easy to drink and one of the best I've had in recent memory. It's the sort of bottle I'd want to get me through dubious circumstances, which it did. 10/10 liquid courage. — 10 years ago

Avery Brewing Company

Pump[KY]n

Burly as a soy sauce shot with a layer of ginger beer. With a persistent effervescence. Tar and burnt coffee, burnt toast, burnt sugar, burnt marshmallow and black strap molasses. As to the nose: obviously secondary to this beast, which demands you first build courage to step into the haunted shack and face the fiery demons of sugar and acrimony. Nose: moldy soy sauce with burnt brittle, carbon paper, India ink, tire rubber, fernet branca, unsweetened licorice. There is brown sugar and bakers chocolate with burnt grounds and other sacrileges! The final piece of this puzzleheaded pumpkin extravaganza is as spooky as hell. Krampus is coming!!! — 9 years ago

Vigneto Corda della Briccolina Barolo Nebbiolo

I fell in love this wine at a tasting near Naples, IT but cannot summon my courage to open this bottle. I bought 6 of them and will keep them in my cellar until they are ready for their rennaissance. — 10 years ago

Jean Maupertuis

I love how this wine celebrates femininity and delicacy. A wine can be restrained yet full of flavor. This wine has charm, which has been hard to find in wine lately--kudos to Chris for having the courage to hold back. — 11 years ago

Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2012

This 2012 is a crazy spice-full nose-hit prepping you for a blueberry front mouth experience that lethargically lingers to the point of the drop:/freefall (hop and pop) , then escapes (lacks finish). That written, the front of this wine is so proper that I have to nudge it over a 9 on the numeric 1-10 scale. Then there's its alcohol friendly side @ only 13%, which gives one the courage to go ahead and snag another bottle to ponder, pen and propose to your pals to ponder and perhaps pen perfect - bottle after bottle - a berry pie without the extra sugar, working way well with my grill-tinged filet mignon and crispy green things😎 buy this wine and drink - enjoy! — 10 years ago

Very difficult wine for a winemaker to understand, normally Sauvignon blanc is made very carefully and precisely, yet this wine is loose, free, unscripted. A lot of courage went into this wine. — 10 years ago

I've been looking forward to try this one for sometime. Been told is a-more-than-one-string violin, like usually SB's do.

Valle de San Vicente Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

I got the courage or at least suckered into trying this Mexican Cabernet, and I must admit that it wasn't bad. I paired it with lamb chops and it was a solid contender in relation to other great Napa cabs. — 10 years ago
