2013 is a tricky year for many European wines. The typically dusty dry Priorat doesn't seem to mind the extra rain. The 2005 vintage of Primitiu de Bellmunt is one of my favourite wine under $50. This 2013 vintage is almost as good as the 2005. Cooler growing season makes it less ripe and acidic as the previous years; it slightly reminds me of Rhône wine. Notes of mushrooms, wet rocks, tree bark, and plum. Very easy on the palate with well balanced tannins and acidity. Weirdly has hints of tropical fruits on the finish. — 9 years ago

This Grenache is dense with complex mineral flavors. It is perfect for accompanying pizza but is sophisticated enough to be a cocktail wine. Peach, plum, and blackberry flavors prevail. This is a big wine for a Grenache but it delivers on the flavor! — 10 years ago

This wine, dubbed the Jarvis Tomei Coloma Mother Lode Rhone Red blend, is consistent with the quality of prior Coloma label releases. Most likely some variation of GSM, it has sharp tannins, light body, and blackberry and currant flavors. — 9 years ago
