It's time for my Friday's Cabernet fix. This time, a wonderful Chilean Cabernet.
Deep purple in color with a purplish rim.
Beautiful nose of blueberries, blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, earth, spices, peppercorn, leather, bell pepper, sage, peppermint, eucalyptus and smoke.
Full bodied with medium acidity and beautiful long legs.
Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, cherries, figs, cloves, herbs, earth, cola, vanilla, oak, spices, light vegetables, coffee, chocolates, bell pepper, tobacco, beef jerky and peppercorn.
Long finish with firm tannins and black pepper.
An elegant, Single Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile, with lots of complexity and fitness, but not fully balanced yet.
Still young now, but very enjoyable by itself, and better with BBQ Meats. I paired it with a cheese platter, crackers and nice company.
Grapes are grown at the foot hills of the Andes Mountains, on stony soils. 99% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Cabernet Franc.
14.5% alcohol by volume. — 8 years ago
1998 #domperignon obvious age since bottling. Medium gold color. Intense nose of coffee and cream. On the palate it's amazing with a slight resemblance to an #amontillado from #sherry It's smooth and round. — 8 years ago
Dark and thick, syrupy but not too sweet. Tastes like blackberry, oak, tobacco, coffee, dark cherry. Very rich colour, smooth. — 9 years ago
Total score while at Beringer. Half bottles of 2006 PR for $33! Yep. Besides the price, the wine has to be one of the more noble bottlings of the decade for my palate. Super pure in the expression of Cabernet Sauvignon; Blackberry, tobacco, touch of coffee; ALL of the cliches descriptors without being boring. I still drink coffee everyday and I would welcome this wine into my home as frequently. Full bodied but BALANCED all the way through. The front palate is a solid intro, the acid was the surprise component that links the finish to the front beautifully. Nice job — 9 years ago
Nice blend from South Africa. — 10 years ago
Coffee grounds, chocolate and prunes. Intensely concentrated and oaky nose, but delightfully balanced on the palate. — 7 years ago
Cherries, coffee, tobacco. Good acidity and soft tannins. Very good wine! — 8 years ago
Yes, you can make a Manhattan with Irish.... — 8 years ago
A lot of really great components--- love the chocolate, chili spice, and coffee---but in the end the sweetness was overbearing. A very good beer still, but more restraint would have made this excellent in my mind. — 8 years ago
Wonderful wild berry fruit, autumn leafs, deep and mysterious, espresso coffee, bitter cherry, wet tabaco leaf, a salty kale note, very attractive. In the mouth this is full, almost sweet but slightly dries tabacco and cherry fruit, soft, dainty, very attractive, lithe and alive. A great wine! — 9 years ago
Heavy stuff. For coffee drinkers and chocolate lovers. — 10 years ago
One of the most overhyped beers ever! — 7 years ago
From magnum this was a very feminine and sensual wine. Classic cassis, toasted oak, roasted coffee beans, currants galore. The palate was youthful, though in a great spot now this should drink like this for a few years then start to gain tertiary notes. So balanced, so pure, so classic. Not a great vintage for most but this shows quite well regardless, plenty to enjoy here. — 8 years ago
St Julien is the most "Californian" Bordeaux style for a reason and Lagrange is not an exception. Ripe Dark fruits, cedar, leather, violets, coffee, firm and soft tannins. Great value for a third growth. — 8 years ago
Smooth. Love the initial fruit and the lingering coffee. Always love a Malbec, but this I will buy again! — 8 years ago
Very smooth. Nice. Chocolate for sure. Toasted espressos beans. Yum. — 9 years ago
Not quite as amazing as the 2011 vintage, but similar notes of gasoline and coffee with a nice velvety finish. Pairs really well with red meat. — 11 years ago
