Very expressive and well knit Franc - lovely middle fruit and persistent length! Blew the rougeard off the table! — 10 years ago

RIP Laurence Faller your 10 Schlossberg was divine! Rougeard 09 infanticide but beautifully rendered. Had both at Grace, in Chicago. — 11 years ago

Le Patriot Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes Macabeo Grenache Blanc 2011

A nice and rather light example of a #natural wine. A clean and slight funk nose, if that makes sense. Way lighter than a Clos Rougeard. Light-bodied on the palate with some fruity acidity. Yum. — 10 years ago

Yes, Clos Rougeard is better, but this is a quarter of the price. Animated red fruits swirl around a dense core of blacker fruits. Red and purple flower perfume abounds. Just enough brett to feel rustic and handmade, and what greenness it has is a pleasant herbal counterpoint to the intensity of the fruit. Ashy-gravel notes abound on the inorganic side. Drink now or hold for 15+. One of the great cabernet franc producers. — 10 years ago

Just had the 2014, saw your note, and wondered: what else is on the A or B lists that I should be drinking?

@Tim Herrmann I am definitely being a little ungenerous in calling Baudry "B-list". They are totally great and still incredible deals. Joguet, the Breton's, Olga Raffault, Chateau Yvonne, Therry Germain, Jerome Lenoir...plus a ton more. That being said, I would still say that in my tasting experience, no one makes Cabernet Franc more profound than Clos Rougeard.

@Morgan Harris thanks--a few on that list I haven't tried and will seek out. I've only had rougeard a couple of times and agree it's hard to beat! Have had a couple of old raffaults that, if the current wines are made similarly, prove they are a steal. The 2014 baudry was great but so young and tight, as expected.
