This was really fun! Texted my friend I was bringing the 01 and he showed up with the 89 Petit. At first the 89 was light years ahead, and in its complexity it reminded me of Rayas. Then an hour or so later the 01 started coming into its own. A lovely opportunity! — 6 years ago
Plenty of funk and barnyard on the nose, bright raspberry and red fruit on the palate — 8 years ago
Opened within the hour. Not transcendent but quite good with classic high end Bourgogne finish — 6 years ago
Out of theme bottle. More depth, concentration, and complexity versus the rest. Most people guessed Vosne from its sensuality (wildness?) and dark fruits. Quite airy which led me to guess Le Petit Monts. I guess the dark/black fruits hinted more towards Les Beaux Monts. Found the 2014 to be more reductive and regal. — 7 years ago
(aged in about 40% new oak, a bit less than in recent vintages): Medium red with modest saturation. Aromas of black raspberry, leather and earth are less pristine than those of today's wines. Creamy-sweet and spicy in the mouth, with a slightly high-toned quality to its fat flavors of red berries, red cherry, underbrush and leather. Can't match the punch of today's Hudelot-Noëllat wines but finishes spicy and very long, with a suggestion of rusticity and slightly edgy tannins that eventually turn a bit dry. Charles van Canneyt, who did not begin vinifying until 2009, following the retirement of his grandfather Alain Hudelot-Noëllat the previous year, noted that the estate's grapes were totally destemmed back in '99, then crushed and pumped back into cuves, an approach that he said could extract bitter tannins if the seeds were green. The last bottle of my 2012 Vosne Romanée from Alain Hudelot Noëllat and its a wonderful show that it manage to put up. Like a grand dame in its golden years bit with a hell of a spirit its displaying evolving characters of dried strawberries, rose petals, blood orange and menthol that is backed up by a prominent choir of nutmeg, clove, truffles, wet stones and forrest floor. Fresh palate with very present but smooth tannins, an expansive palate as the encore slowly fades out in a very respectful and balanced finish.
Day 2 tasting and its pumped up, more nuanced, defined and dresses up to its teeth in elegance. The last bottle of six will leave its mark for sure. Divine! — 5 years ago

Quick notes from the Pogo testing. This was just the village wine 2013
WOTN (or rather the testing!).Really awesome. This and the subsequent Vosnee-Romanee are what I had liked best.

2018 was a troublesome vintage and a test for being a good producer. This is how I found Hudelot-Noëllat. The new vintage is different, especially in terms of acidity and volume. Beautiful bouquet: cherry, milk chocolate and wet leaves. Fresh, juicy, well-balanced, round, elegant, but still too young. — 3 years ago
